Saving up money from breakfast allowances, pocket money, personal shopping... to "feed" a piggy bank every day, to help underprivileged children during the Lunar New Year.
This is a meaningful and practical humanitarian activity carried out by students of Le Quy Don Primary School in My Tho City, Tien Giang Province for over 10 years.
Warmth from small change
On January 30th, Mr. Nguyen Le Tuyen Quang , the head of the Youth Union at Le Quy Don Primary School, stated that the school's "Pink Smile - Nurturing Green Dreams" movement (also known as the piggy bank saving movement) has helped many poor and disadvantaged students receive gifts to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) for over 10 years.
At the beginning of each school year, students are given piggy banks by the school to manage and save money at home; nearly 800 piggy banks have been given to students so far.
Every day, students can save up their allowance from their parents and put it into a piggy bank. This contribution is completely voluntary, self-motivated, and depends on each student's ability.
The daily joy of watching the "piggy bank grow" is reflected in the weekly summaries during troop and class activities, and the overwhelming emotion of breaking open the piggy bank with a large sum of money to prepare gifts for students in need, together with the teachers.

Spread love
In recent years, this movement has been implemented by many schools in My Tho City to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
At Le Quy Don Primary School, this movement has become a meaningful activity, contributing to spreading the spirit of "mutual support" and "helping those in need" within the school community.
More than just a simple fundraising campaign, the piggy bank movement brings profound moral and humanitarian values. First and foremost, the movement helps students understand the importance of sharing with those who are less fortunate or in need.

Parent Nguyen Thi Mai Hue, whose child attends Le Quy Don Primary School, shared: "I am very happy to see my child participating in the piggy bank fundraising campaign to help students in difficult circumstances. Every day, my child saves money from the allowance I give them for school to put in the piggy bank, and I also participate in supporting the cause along with my children."
Ms. Le Thi Minh Tham, principal of Le Quy Don Primary School, said that this movement, organized by the school, both motivates students and fosters compassion in them.
This initiative has been running for over 10 years now, and thousands of underprivileged students have received gifts and lucky money during the Lunar New Year.
In 2024, the Le Quy Don Primary School's student union organized a piggy bank savings program, accumulating a total of over 98 million VND.
From these savings, the school organized a Lunar New Year gift-giving event for the Year of the Snake 2025 and gave lucky money to 70 underprivileged students who overcame difficulties and excelled in their studies during the 2024-2025 school year.
