Among the most anticipated are the Tet Book series by Dong A Publishing House and the Tet Appreciation series by Kim Dong Publishing House. Featuring literary works, poetry, music, and art combined with nostalgic writings, these two publications offer a diverse range of emotions, from fresh and hopeful expressions of youth and the innocent perspective of children, to contemplative reflections preparing for an exciting new year from renowned Vietnamese writers.
The standout works of this year's Lunar New Year book season.
Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper , Ms. Tran Hoai Thu, editor of the Dong A book brand, said: "Since 2019, when we started the project to revive Tet books, the market has seen the emergence of many other Tet book editions with diverse genres and styles suitable for all ages. I believe this is a positive sign because it has given readers more choices for 'spiritual nourishment' during Tet, helping generations of Vietnamese people learn more about a traditional national holiday. The appearance of Tet books will also help spread and promote traditional culture as well as reading culture among readers of all ages."
This year's Lunar New Year books are marked by youthful energy and creativity. Particularly noteworthy is the book " Tet in Three Regions " by young author and artist Le Rin. Through humorous and whimsical illustrations, he takes readers on a journey to discover the traditional Tet atmosphere of the three regions, appealing to young readers. Other publications, alongside established names, also feature contributions from young people, conveying messages of balance and continuity.
Fresh Tet (Lunar New Year) publications from all three regions of Vietnam , featuring vibrant illustrations.
Furthermore, we cannot overlook the works that record the traditional cultural aspects of our ancestors that have more or less faded away. These publications help young people understand more deeply the beautiful meaning in each custom, thereby practicing them correctly, economically, and civilly in modern times. Examples include: Traditional Vietnamese Worship - Rituals and Practices (Trung Chinh Quach Trong Tra), Family Genealogy, Family Prayers (Nguyen Manh Linh)...
Regarding market demand, Ms. Thu shared: "Like every year, Dong A only prints the exact number of books for each year. Starting with 2,019 in the year of the Pig (2019), this year there are only 2,025 copies, divided into two versions: hardcover and paperback. Just under a week after its official release, the paperback Tet book for the year of the Snake (2025) quickly sold out. This year's pre-orders were very good, reaching nearly one-third of the total paperback edition. On January 1st, 2025, within just two minutes of going on sale, the hardcover version, packaged in a lacquer box, also quickly sold out." This shows that the hobby of collecting books is gradually returning and being increasingly embraced.
