Strange 'Tet holiday homework'

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên22/01/2025

The Lunar New Year is fast approaching. People are eagerly anticipating the most special days of the year. Everyone, in every household, is looking forward to the moment when the old year comes to an end.

Starting today (December 24th), students in many localities officially begin their Tet holiday break. For many years now, the policy of saying no to Tet holiday homework has been implemented in provinces and cities, spreading to many schools.

For many years now, I haven't assigned any homework to students during the Lunar New Year holiday. This year, however, I've given them a huge amount of homework. Here are 10 assignments:

1. Decorate the house with family members for the Lunar New Year reunion. I often remind my children about this, not only during the Lunar New Year but also on ordinary days, teaching them the importance of doing housework and appreciating manual labor.

2. Tell your father (and the male world ) to get involved in cooking and cleaning. I always teach my students, especially the boys, to do this. They should do even more as they grow older. During Tet (Vietnamese New Year), fathers need to do this even more so that women have a lighter burden.

3. Appreciate the lucky money; don't focus on the monetary value, but cherish the beauty and cultural value of giving lucky money.

4. Let go of past grievances and shortcomings of others. Teaching students how to forgive in order to love more is a lesson I frequently teach them, especially when there is any conflict between them.

5. The essentials for Tet (Lunar New Year) are not homework assignments, but family affection, living responsibly, and living to love. Say or write words of gratitude to those you cherish.

6. Gain more experiences, accumulate more skills and social knowledge. Travel around to appreciate the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam. Leave a beautiful mark of spring in every place you visit.

7. Actively engage in self-study at a time that suits you, when you are interested and not under pressure.

8. Spend time immersing yourself in the world of books.

9. Take some quiet, private moments to reflect on what you've accomplished this past year and plan for the new year.

10. A constant smile on your lips, radiating across your face. Let's share more radiant smiles with each other.
