Teams that qualified for the 2026 World Cup

Ghana is almost certain to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and is set to become the 20th team to participate in the biggest football event on the planet in North America next summer.

Ghana has a 99.99% chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

In the early hours of October 9th, Ghana thrashed Central Africa 5-0 in their penultimate match of Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the African region. After 9 matches, Ghana (goal difference +16) leads Group I with 22 points, 3 points ahead of second-placed Madagascar (goal difference +8).

In theory, Ghana has not yet secured a place in the 2026 World Cup, but they would only miss out if a crazy scenario unfolds in the final match of Group I. To lose their spot, Ghana would have to lose their final match against Comoros, and Madagascar would have to beat Mali by eight goals or more.

This scenario is considered highly unlikely, if not almost impossible. Previously, Egypt defeated Djibouti 3-0, thus becoming the 19th team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Besides the three co-hosting nations, the United States, Canada, and Mexico, 16 other teams qualified for the World Cup: Australia, Japan, Iran, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan (Asia), Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt (Africa), Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay (South America), and New Zealand (Oceania).

Ghana is also close to securing a spot, based on the current standings. Following the national team matches this month, it is expected that five more spots will be determined in the African region and two in the Asian region.
