The little house of big hearts
For over 10 years, the Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group, comprised of members of diverse ages (from 7 to over 80 years old), has been working together to bring love to those in need in the city and surrounding areas.
As a religious group, in addition to regular Sunday afternoon meetings, the members of Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group also regularly organize many charitable activities aimed at the community. They don't aim to do grand things, but only hope to contribute a small part to bring joy and smiles to those less fortunate.
In the early days, funding for charitable activities was raised from lion dance performances during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The lion dance troupe brought together senior members and scouts in various roles: lion dance director, Ông Địa (Earth God), drum and cymbal player, coordinator, or logistics manager. Each person had a task, working together to create meaningful charitable trips.

Over the years, some senior members (like Ky, Long, etc.) had to retire to their families for various reasons and could no longer participate in the activities. However, when support is needed, they are always ready to step in. The remaining members still strive to maintain the lion dance as an annual activity with the common goal of bringing warmth and love to everyone.
All proceeds from the lion dance performance, after deducting necessary expenses, are allocated by the organization to charitable work.
From that fund, charitable trips have been extended to many shelters and welfare facilities. Members of the Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group have collaborated with the Tien Phong team (Da Nang University of Economics Student Union) to organize lion dance performances and distribute gifts at the Da Nang City Street Children's Protection Center; visited and donated gifts to the Quang Chau Pagoda charity shelter (Da Nang), the Uu Dam orphanage (Hue City), and many other disadvantaged families.
The charitable journey of the unit is not only built upon lion dance performances, but also receives the support of the parents of the members. This joint effort has contributed to spreading the spirit of love and sharing that Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group has consistently cultivated over the years.
A warm meal, a loving heart.
In addition to raising funds for charity through annual lion dance performances, the Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group has recently launched a "Free Lunch" program using funds raised from its members, former members, and parental contributions.

Every Sunday afternoon, during their activity time, the children personally put their savings into a "charity roundabout." The total amount is tallied and publicly disclosed. The senior leaders contribute according to their means, and the group also receives support from parents of the scouts and anonymous benefactors.
When the time is right, Ms. Thanh Ngan and the senior leaders will contact hospitals in Da Nang City to implement the "Free Lunch" program. Depending on the period, these charitable meals are delivered to Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Lien Chieu District Medical Center, C17 Military Hospital, and many other medical facilities.
Although each person only receives one meal, members of the Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group still flexibly provide additional support to patients hospitalized alone or without family members present. With limited resources, each program usually distributes around 250-300 meals. When they perceive a greater need, the group mobilizes additional resources to increase the number to over 400 meals, hoping to share more with those in difficult circumstances.

The seeds of love grow stronger.
For Ky Vien Buddhist Youth Group, charitable activities are one of the important orientations in their annual activities. Besides the regularly maintained "Free Lunch" program, the group also strives to preserve the lion dance fundraising activity as a way to continue its journey of sharing with the community.
The senior leaders always consider cultivating compassion and mutual support as an important part of educating the scouts. From the oldest members, some over 80 years old, to the youngest children not yet in first grade, everyone contributes in their own way. The meals will eventually be distributed, the gifts will be sent out, but the seeds of love sown through each generation continue to sprout, spread, and connect more hearts that know how to live for others.
