According to Apple, the most recent iPhones that received the iOS 17 update but cannot upgrade to iOS 18 are the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, along with the iPhone X.

Meanwhile, iPhone models compatible with iOS 18 include the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, along with the iPhone XS and XS Max; the iPhone XR; and the iPhone SE (2nd generation or higher).

To make sure your iPhone is on the list of devices eligible for the iOS 18 update, you can check the list below:

As you can see, all iPhones running iOS 17 can be updated to iOS 18. However, according to Apple, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are compatible with the new AI or Apple Intelligence features. This is because these features require the A17 Pro or M1 chip or higher.

The first beta version of iOS 18 has been released to developers. iPhone users can now download the iOS 18 beta to experience the new features. However, Apple recommends backing up your data in case the version is unstable. iOS 18 will officially be available to the general public this fall.

The Action Center has also been improved with a more attractive design. Users can customize and add new control pages such as frequently used items, music controls, and smart home controls.

iMessages has been upgraded: Users can schedule messages and respond with a variety of emojis and effects such as bold, underline, strikethrough, and italics. iMessage also now supports RCS, providing encryption and the ability to send high-quality photos and videos .

App locking and hiding: This is a powerful upgrade in security and privacy. The app locking feature requires Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode for access. The app will not display system information, including search and notifications, helping to protect sensitive information. Users can also easily hide apps by moving them to the locked hidden apps folder.

Gaming Mode: Gaming Mode optimizes iPhone performance while gaming by minimizing background apps to ensure high and stable frame rates throughout gameplay.
