While the iPhone 17 series became the three best-selling smartphones globally in Q1 2026, the reality is that many users are disappointed with what's happening with their devices. In fact, numerous complaints from iPhone 17 users have emerged since its launch, causing considerable concern.

Scratchgate scandal

Scratchgate is a reported issue on iPhone 17 Pro models, referring to the phone's back panel being easily scratched and quickly attracting attention from users, especially when the problem occurs with the highest-end models in the line. Apple explains that the scratches are mainly due to dirt accumulating from the MagSafe docking station, but some impact damage can still occur.

In addition, some users have experienced issues with their phones only charging wirelessly, as well as other reported problems related to performance, durability, and network connectivity. Although Apple has made efforts to fix some of these issues through software updates, many complaints remain unresolved.

Some users of the Space Orange iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have reported that the anodized aluminum frame on their devices is changing color from orange to pink. The cause of this phenomenon remains unclear, and to date, no official solution has been released.

When Apple switched from a titanium to an aluminum frame for the iPhone 17 Pro models, they stated that the new design with a curved metal frame and Ceramic Shield 2 protective glass promised greater durability. However, tests showed that the aluminum frame is still susceptible to dents and scratches from drops, which could affect the product's resale value or potential future value when users want to trade in their device.

The iPhone 17 battery life is not as good as expected.

Long-time iPhone users may be familiar with the battery life issues that often occur after upgrading or installing a new iOS update. Battery life may be shorter than expected, and the device may overheat after initial setup or software updates.

iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air: First complaints

Although the above issue is normal, some iPhone 17 users have reported unexpected charging problems. Specifically, some have experienced a buzzing sound while using the device during charging, and when the battery reaches 0%, the device may not charge with a cable, causing inconvenience to users.

Experience iOS 26

Some users have also complained about slow performance and stuttering when experiencing iOS 26 on the iPhone 17, despite these devices being equipped with advanced mobile chips.

Recent leaks about iOS 27 suggest that Apple will focus on improving stability and performance to address remaining issues. This is not surprising, given that iOS 26 saw a major interface overhaul, and Apple has also continuously released minor updates to fix bugs and improve the user experience since its launch.

Disappointment with the iPhone Air

Apple's thinnest iPhone ever also faced criticism. With its slim design and large screen, the iPhone Air sacrificed some important features, such as having only a single rear camera and a smaller battery, impacting product demand and resulting in the iPhone Air rarely running out of stock during inventory checks. It even sold for less than the iPhone 17, despite having a launch price that was 7 million VND higher.
