"Garbage lanes" bloom with flowers.

On a weekend morning, Ms. Tran Hong Hanh, a resident of apartment block CD in the 17.3-hectare area (An Khanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City), pushed her nearly 5-month-old son's stroller out to enjoy the sunshine. From the apartment complex courtyard, looking across Duong Lam street (the section from Ong Tranh bridge to Binh Trung Park), she saw a refreshing green landscape of trees, vegetables, and many colorful flowers blooming in the early morning sun. Beside the flowerbeds, a few elderly people were weeding, watering, and chatting animatedly.

Seeing Ms. Hanh looking over with a surprised expression, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong (62 years old, residing in the same apartment building) who was exercising nearby said: "You see how much the land over there has changed, don't you? Everyone contributed a little effort, and that's why it's like this now."

More than five months ago, when Ms. Hanh returned to her hometown to give birth, the plot of land along Duong Lam road was still full of garbage. Yet, in a short time, it has transformed into a garden full of flowers, ornamental plants, and vegetables. While tending to the vegetable and flower garden on the allocated plot, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chinh smiled and introduced the various vegetables, herbs, and flowers he grows there. “Each household received a portion of land to grow vegetables and flowers. Every day we go to the garden to take care of the plants, chat with our neighbors in the apartment building, which strengthens our community bonds and makes life feel more meaningful,” Mr. Chinh said.

Next to it, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tien also planted many kinds of flowers in vibrant colors on his land. Introducing the newly planted flowers, Mr. Tien said that he will plant flowers throughout the entire area so that they will bloom profusely this Tet holiday, providing people with a place to admire and take pictures.

Speaking about the model flower-lined street in Ba Vi on Duong Lam Street, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Head of the Front Committee of Ward 33, An Khanh Commune, couldn't hide his joy. Previously, this area was an empty plot of land, overgrown with trees and filled with accumulated garbage, causing environmental pollution and unsightly conditions. Concerned about this, the Front Committee of Ward 33 registered to participate in the "Garbage-Free Street" project. "Now, this place has rows of green trees, vegetable gardens, flower gardens, ornamental plants, and sidewalks. We allocated land to households to grow flowers and assigned them the responsibility of caring for the flowerbeds to create a beautiful landscape. Some households even contributed tens of millions of dong to beautify their vegetable and flower gardens. Everyone is happy to have contributed to a project with great significance, bringing joy to the community," Mr. Nguyen Van Dung shared.

Flowers bloom profusely along the streets.

For the past four months, residents passing through alley 74 on National Highway 13 (Binh Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) have been delighted by the transformation of the wall along the alley, which was once covered in moss and vines, into a beautiful, brightly colored space adorned with flowers. The alley, previously dilapidated and littered with garbage, is now clean and well-maintained. "Now that the lights are on, flowers are planted along the wall, and there are even surveillance cameras, people feel safer when passing through here," shared Ms. Huynh Thi Le Tieng, a resident of alley 74, while watering the flowers.

Witnessing the transformation of the alley in just a few months, Ms. Tieng said that since the construction began, many residents have joined hands in taking care of and maintaining the flower pots, planting more trees, etc.

Ms. Bui My Le, Head of the Women's Association of Ward 50, Binh Thanh Commune, shared that in response to the "City of a Thousand Colors of Flowers" movement launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the neighborhood implemented the "Binh Thanh Street Corner - Vibrant Flower Wall" project with the joint efforts of many forces, creating a vibrant, green and refreshing space.

Vibrant flowers are also present in many places throughout Ho Chi Minh City. For example, along the more than 300-meter stretch of Cao Van Ngoc Street (Dat Do Commune, Ho Chi Minh City), what was once an empty plot of land has now become a lush green road lined with flowers and trees. Ms. Tran Thi Kim, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dat Do Commune, added that there are 33 flower-lined roads in the commune that are being maintained and beautified by the hamlets.

The model of flower-lined streets is considered one of the practical and creative activities that contributes to building a green, clean, and beautiful environment, improving the quality of life for people, and creating a vibrant landscape close to nature. The Women's Union of Dat Do commune also maintains the "Colorful Street" model; the Fatherland Front and other political and social organizations in Dat Do commune also mobilize households to utilize public spaces to implement projects such as: flower-lined streets, flower-lined alleys, flower-lined fences, community flower gardens, public miniature landscapes, etc., helping to create neighborhoods vibrant with flowers.

The "City of a Thousand Flowers" movement, launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, aims to build green, clean, and beautiful urban and rural areas, improving the quality of life through activities such as planting flowers and trees on streets, alleys, balconies, yards, and offices. The movement, implemented from 2025 to 2030, will be concretized through various models such as "Flower Alley," "Flowering Balcony," "Park of a Thousand Flowers," and "Loving Flower Kitchen," mobilizing people to participate in planting trees, beautifying the landscape, and creating a civilized, modern, and compassionate living space.
