The unsung heroes on Hai Van Pass

Amidst the scorching sun of Central Vietnam in early May, a reunion unfolded thanks to the efforts of railway workers. With unwavering perseverance and compassionate hearts, they undertook a breathtaking search deep within the forest to bring a young mother, who had been lost for nearly three days, back to her family in the vast Hai Van mountain range.

At noon on May 6th, while the SE10 train was stopped at Hai Van Bac station, a young female passenger, in a state of postpartum psychological distress, suddenly left the train and disappeared into the rugged mountainous area. It wasn't until the train was about to arrive at Lang Co station that her relatives were shocked to discover the incident and immediately alerted the train crew.

Immediately, a large-scale search operation was launched with close coordination between the police, border guards, and numerous railway officials and employees in the area.

On the morning of May 8th, at the headquarters of the Chan May Commune Police Station (Lang Co), a reunion took place amidst tears of happiness.

Under the scorching summer sun of Central Vietnam, search teams fanned out through the bushes and rocky crevices along the mountain slopes. However, after many hours of effort, the young mother's whereabouts remained unknown. In utter despair and under the pressure of the journey, the family was forced to suppress their grief, temporarily halt the search, and continue their journey home by train, feeling helpless.

It was in that heartbreaking moment that the railway workers quietly became a strong source of moral support for them. They not only provided transportation, helped with meals, and handled ticket changes, but also silently developed a long-term search plan, determined not to abandon their passengers.

Hai Van North Station.

Until the morning of May 7th, when a patrol officer spotted a strange woman lurking near Hai Van North station, an immediate "total mobilization" was established through the internal communication system. The station management deployed personnel, even using drones (flycams), to thoroughly search every meter of land in the complex mountainous terrain.

By that afternoon, the search team was overwhelmed with joy when they found the young mother, starving and exhausted. Their hands, accustomed only to machinery and the harshness of metal, softened, and they began cooking meals and caring for the passenger as if she were their own flesh and blood.

On the morning of May 8th, at the headquarters of the Chan May Commune Police (Lang Co), a reunion took place amidst tears of joy. The safe return of the young mother is the result of the kindness, dedication, and professional ethics of the railway workers.
