Free meals warm the hearts of patients.

Free meals warm the hearts of patients.

Free meals are delivered directly to patients by volunteers from the "Meal on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa .

Despite the scorching heat of July, volunteers from the "Meal on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa still delivered free meals on time for lunchtime to patients and their families in difficult circumstances receiving treatment at the Provincial General Hospital. The meals, complete with meat, fish, vegetables, and dessert, along with words of encouragement and support from the volunteers, helped alleviate some of the difficulties and reassure the patients during their treatment.

Holding a free meal in her hands, Mrs. NTM, a family member of a patient being treated at the Provincial General Hospital, was visibly moved. She said, “My husband has had kidney failure for several years, so he has to go to the Provincial General Hospital every week for dialysis. Back home, our family's livelihood depends on a few acres of rice paddies, so our economic situation is very difficult. Any surplus money goes straight to paying for my husband's treatment and our children's education. Our family life is already difficult, so receiving these free meals at the hospital is truly a lifesaver. I hope the club will continue to organize more meaningful programs like this at other hospitals in the province to help families in difficult circumstances like mine.”

Ms. MTH is also one of the patients receiving treatment at the Provincial General Hospital who regularly receives free meals weekly from volunteers of the "Meal on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa. Ms. H. shared: "The meals are carefully prepared, ensuring food safety and hygiene, so we feel very reassured. The thoughtfulness and dedication of the volunteers in the "Meal on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa when giving us meals not only helps patients in difficult circumstances reduce some of the costs during treatment, but also spreads love and multiplies kindness in life."

With the message "Every plate of rice, a heartfelt gesture," every week, rain or shine, volunteers from the "Rice Plate on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa diligently visit hospitals to deliver free meals, helping poor patients alleviate difficulties in their fight against illness. Mr. Nguyen Tai Duc, Deputy Chairman of the "Rice Plate on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa, said: The "Rice Plate on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa was established according to Decision No. 48/QD-CTDTTH dated December 9, 2019, of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Red Cross Society, with the desire to become a bridge between generous hearts, businesses, and philanthropists to share love with children suffering from serious, critical, and chronic illnesses, and from disadvantaged families receiving treatment at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital (according to the plan, the club will distribute 600 to 1,000 free plates of rice each month to children and their caregivers).

Since its inception, the club's members have actively contributed and called upon benefactors and philanthropists to join hands in fundraising. In addition, the club regularly organizes a charity music night once a year to create a wider reach and encourage more philanthropists to support the cause, enabling the provision of more charitable meals for impoverished patients.

Thanks to this, not only children and their families receiving treatment at Thanh Hoa Pediatric Hospital, but over the years, the club has extended its helping hand, sharing loving meals with cancer patients, lonely elderly people, chronic kidney disease patients, and many other unfortunate individuals at several other hospitals in the province such as Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, Thanh Hoa Mental Hospital, Yen Dinh General Hospital, etc.

According to statistics since its establishment, the club has received contributions from benefactors totaling 3.5 billion VND, with over 133,000 meals distributed to patients and their families, equivalent to a value of 3.3 billion VND. In addition to providing free meals, upon receiving information about patients in difficult circumstances receiving treatment at hospitals in the province, the club's volunteers also directly visit and encourage them, while connecting with and appealing to benefactors and philanthropists to provide financial support to these patients.

These meals may be small, but they are how members of the "Meal on the Wall" Club in Thanh Hoa, along with philanthropists, share some of the burden with patients and their families during their treatment at hospitals. This is also a deeply humane act, embodying the spirit of "helping those in need." We hope that the club's beautiful actions will continue to spread throughout the community, so that more kind-hearted people will join hands and contribute to providing even more free meals for impoverished patients.
