Born and raised in a family facing extreme hardship, Ms. Vu Thi Thuy (born in 1982, Cao Thang 4 area, Ha Lam ward) developed an early sense of self-reliance and empathy, always wanting to help those in similar circumstances. She shared: "In the early years of my volunteer work, my family's economic situation was very difficult, so I only collected used but still good quality clothes from friends and relatives to donate to the poor and those in particularly difficult circumstances in the former Ha Long City, helping them save money for other expenses."
In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic intensified, making life even more difficult for poor households, people with disabilities, and elderly people living alone. With the spirit of "helping those in need," she saved on expenses, set aside a portion of her family's finances, and called on friends and relatives to donate rice, helping people fight hunger and have warm meals during the pandemic. Over three years (2020-2022), she and her friends and relatives donated nearly 11 tons of rice to vulnerable people.
Since the pandemic, Thuy's volunteer group has continued to donate rice to households in particularly difficult circumstances. In addition, she also provides monthly support of 600,000 VND to a student in extremely difficult circumstances.
Ms. Pham Thi Xuan, Head of the Front Committee of Ha Lam 5 neighborhood, Ha Lam ward, said: Currently, there are still some cases in the neighborhood that are eligible for social welfare support. The collective help of the community, including Ms. Thuy, not only helps these households alleviate financial difficulties and gives them more motivation to improve their lives, but also spreads compassion and solidarity within the community.

Driven by compassion, for many years, Ms. Pham Nam Duong (born in 1980, residing in Zone 3, Ha Long Ward) has been quietly helping people in difficult circumstances in the mountainous and border communes of the province.
To connect with others and do more good deeds, in 2023, she joined the Mong Cai Humanitarian Volunteer Club, participating with other members in blood donation; supporting, mobilizing, and calling on relatives, friends, colleagues, and businesses to provide financial assistance to poor households, those facing extreme difficulties, and people affected by natural disasters and floods; organizing Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations for students in remote areas; and organizing a year-end meal for patients undergoing treatment and the on-call team at Mong Cai Regional General Hospital...
From 2023 to the present, implementing the "Zero-Cost Tet Market" model organized by the Club, Ms. Nam Duong and her relatives have each participated with a stall worth 20 million VND to donate to 100 households with particularly difficult circumstances in the former Mong Cai City.
Ms. Nam Duong shared: "The joy and excitement of the people when they held in their hands the gift of 1kg of pork sausage and 2 sticky rice cakes is the joy, happiness, and motivation for me and the members of the club to continue spreading more love to the community."
In the Trai Moi A area of Binh Khe ward, Mrs. Truong Thi Mai (born in 1957) and her husband are always actively involved in charitable and humanitarian work. Sometimes they donate cash, other times they donate clothes, instant noodles, cakes, milk, bottled water, etc. These small acts have contributed to spreading a good lifestyle and building awareness and responsibility for the community among the people.
These actions are just a small part of the charitable activities undertaken by the people of the province to care for the poor and disadvantaged. In the future, the joint efforts and contributions of philanthropists and sponsors are essential to ensure these activities are carried out regularly and continuously, thereby contributing to the promotion of the nation's spirit of "mutual support and compassion," ensuring that no one is left behind.
