(BLC) - The story of Ma A Phu (born in 1990) in Say San 3 village, Nung Nang commune (Tam Duong district) who overcame difficulties, loved to study, innovated and was creative is mentioned by many people as the pride of the Mong ethnic group in studying and following Uncle Ho. He became the youngest party member of Say San 3 village. As Chairman of the Farmers' Association (FAA) of the commune, he helped many farmer members build a prosperous, progressive, equal and happy life.

The arduous search for "letters"

Arriving at Nung Nang commune - where Mr. Phu was born and raised during the rainy season, water flows in just when the rice plants are taking root. On the terraced fields stretching out in a green color, we feel the prosperity and peace that exists here. I had the chance to meet A Phu when he went down to the base to "inspecte" the productivity and quality of pears during the main harvest season. His appearance was very different from what I imagined. A Phu was simple, his pants rolled up above his knees, wearing sandals, and a dark shirt. He attracted me with his warm attitude, gentle and polite gestures. Reaching out to pick a plump, juicy pear, A Phu told me about his childhood years with his parents and 8 brothers and sisters, struggling to grow corn and low-yield local rice varieties, living in poverty all year round.

After finishing primary school, A Phu climbed a mountain pass and traveled dozens of kilometers from home to Nung Nang Secondary School in Phan Chu Hoa village to study Uncle Ho's letters. At that time, the road was bumpy, and he often tripped and fell, causing his feet to bleed. Yet every morning, as soon as the jungle fowl crowed, A Phu quickly ate a sweet potato or a bowl of salted rice. Sometimes he went to class hungry.

In the 2005-2006 school year, A Phu passed the entrance exam to Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted ( Lai Chau City). However, due to the difficult family life, A Phu had to drop out of school to help his family. However, his passion for going to school was always there, so he studied on his own using textbooks. Realizing Phu's studiousness, in the 2006-2007 school year, his family created conditions for him to continue taking the entrance exam to Lai Chau City High School. At the end of the 11th grade, a tragedy struck his family. His father became seriously ill, and he became the main breadwinner of the family. A Phu had to drop out of school again, increase production with his mother to take care of his father and raise his younger siblings.

Thinking that he would no longer have the opportunity to study, but with his determination to pursue knowledge, in 2011, he decided to register for grade 12 at the Provincial ContinuingEducation - Vocational Guidance Center. Instead of 3 years as usual, A Phu had to spend 6 years struggling to find "knowledge" at high school to receive a diploma. But that was the foundation for him to be qualified to pass the entrance exam to Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry in 2012. Returning to his hometown with tireless efforts, actively participating in all union activities, he was trusted by the Party Committee to become a police officer. Enthusiastic and responsible, in July 2014, he was honored to be admitted to the Party, becoming the youngest party member of Say San 3 village. From 2018 to present, he has been appointed to hold the positions of Deputy Chief of Police, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association and Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nung Nang commune.

The story with Mr. Ma A Cha in Say San 3 village partly helped us understand more about Ma A Phu. Mr. Cha said: “Witnessing A Phu from birth until he grew up to become an adult like today, I always admire the will and determination of this boy. And today, A Phu is the one who "ignites" the cadres, members and people to unite and build a prosperous life. Thanks to A Phu's pioneering, leading, and guiding people to know how to invest in fattening buffaloes for meat, raising horses for breeding in the direction of goods; converting ineffective crop areas to growing angelica, passion fruit, tea, pears and early-ripening peaches. Listening to and following A Phu, many households have risen to become rich legitimately."

Mr. Vang A Sung - Party Cell Secretary, Head of Phan Chu Hoa village, when mentioning Ma A Phu, his face lit up with pride. He admired A Phu's modesty, self-study, training, striving, speaking and doing following Uncle Ho's example; enthusiastically guiding the people to develop a sustainable economy . When people needed to ask about livestock and crop farming techniques or were concerned about the State's policies, A Phu would gently and satisfactorily explain, and everyone trusted and loved him.

Boldly innovate and create

In any position, he always affirms his pioneering, exemplary, leading role, propagating to farmers to raise awareness of self-study to eliminate illiteracy, not waiting for or relying on the support of the state, boldly changing the structure of crops, livestock, investment, machinery, and agricultural materials towards commodities.

The clearest evidence of innovation and creativity is that in 2018, he was the first person in the commune to boldly cooperate with Tam Duong Tea Development Investment Joint Stock Company to convert more than 5,000m2 of ineffective rice fields to experimental planting of angelica. He strictly followed the technical process of planting and caring for the angelica, and the angelica grew and developed well. Each crop, he harvested 3 - 3.5 tons, deducting expenses for an income of over 100 million VND.

Thanks to the high economic efficiency of his family's angelica plantation, people trust him to visit and learn about planting, care and pest control techniques. Currently, the commune has 12 households growing more than 3 hectares of angelica, increasing income and improving family life.

Not stopping there, he was also the first person in the area to convert ineffective corn fields to a pilot planting of 50 pear trees. To make the pear trees grow large and beautiful, he applied science and technology to fertilize, prevent pests and diseases, and prune leaves and fruits. In some areas, he bought plastic bags to wrap the fruits to prevent bees and fruit flies from stinging him. Up to now, he has 1 hectare with 250 pear trees that are harvesting fruit, bringing his family an income of over 30 million VND per year.

From his family's pear tree growing model, seeing the high economic efficiency, the villagers learned and followed. Currently, the commune has 254 households growing more than 47 hectares of pears, of which 23.24 hectares yield fruit. Many people have become better off from growing pear trees. Typically, Mr. Ma A Ky in Say San 3 village, Mr. Ky said: "If A Phu had not converted first, perhaps no one would have dared to do it. I learned from A Phu to grow 350 pear trees, of which 200 trees have yielded fruit. In the past few crops, my family has earned over 40 million VND."

In addition, A Phu also raises beef buffalo, 120 pairs of breeding pigeons, and takes care of 70 guava trees. After deducting expenses, his family earns 300 million VND in profit each year and spreads it to help over 30 households learn and follow. Whenever his family's agricultural model has new plants or animals, people in the commune come to visit, learn and follow.

Diligent and eager to learn, Mr. Phu affirms his pioneering role, boldly innovating, creating, introducing new varieties of plants and animals into production, helping families and people change the way of sustainable agricultural production. He deserves to be a shining example in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh.
