Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Vize Susan - acting chief representative of the UNESCO office in Hanoi - commented that poetry and literature on Hue royal architecture is a unique decorative art about the history of the Vietnamese people.
“Over 150 years of political , social and cultural development in the form of masterpieces of poetry carved, engraved, inlaid, cast, fired, assembled on wood, walls... inlaid, gilded and other forms of decoration; truly “only” found in Vietnam at the Hue royal court with incomparable materials and beauty…”, she said.
With the recognition of poetry and literature on Hue royal architecture this time, Hue has 5 heritages recognized by UNESCO. Previously, the complex of Hue monuments, Hue royal court music, Nguyen Dynasty woodblocks and Nguyen Dynasty administrative records were also honored by UNESCO.
Poetry on Hue royal architecture is the entire system of Chinese characters in the form of poems and prose carved, engraved, inlaid, etc. on the Nguyen Dynasty royal architecture in Hue.
According to statistics, currently on Hue royal architecture there are 2,967 carved and gilded wooden poetry panels; 146 enameled poetry panels and 88 units of ceramic panels, parallel sentences and poems.
These are unique historical, cultural and artistic messages of a period in Vietnam's modern history.
Mr. Phan Thanh Hai - Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center - said that being honored will be a great task and challenge for the government and people of Thua Thien - Hue.
That is the strategic orientation to preserve and promote the value of this documentary heritage along with the cultural heritage that has been comprehensively recognized, including tangible and intangible cultural heritage, environmental landscapes, and to expand international exchange and cooperation.
Previously, the 7th General Conference of the Memory of the World Program for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP, UNESCO) held in Hue recognized two Vietnamese heritages as world documentary heritages.
In addition to the Poetry on Hue royal architecture, there are also the Woodblocks of Phuc Giang School (Ha Tinh).
