On October 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health coordinated with the Representative Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of the Elderly to organize the launching ceremony of "Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly" in 2025 with the theme "Promoting the role of the elderly in the era of national growth".
Over the years, the City Elderly Association at all levels has organized many practical activities. From health care, social security support, building a fund for elderly care, to developing Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, Health Clubs, culture - arts... The movements "Old age - Good example", "Live happily, live healthy, live happily, live usefully" have created a positive spread in society.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tang Minh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that Ho Chi Minh City currently has about 1.6 million elderly people, accounting for about 11% of the population, with an increasingly high aging index. This is both a challenge and an opportunity to promote the wisdom, experience, prestige and valuable traditions of the elderly in building and developing the City.

Implementing the plan of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Action Month will focus on implementing programs and projects on elderly health care until 2030; screening and detecting non-communicable diseases; "Elderly people participating in digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". In addition, mobilizing social resources, encouraging businesses to fulfill social responsibility in caring for and supporting the elderly.

Club types: Intergenerational self-help, health care, culture - arts, sports for the elderly continue to be maintained and developed. Special attention is paid to the elderly in difficult circumstances, loneliness, and without support, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Implementing Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo , the City identified the development of the elderly care service system as a key task. According to comrade Nguyen Tang Minh, in addition to strengthening the grassroots health network, the City will focus on building and implementing a project to develop nursing home services. At the same time, encourage the development of public-private partnership models, mobilize businesses and social organizations to participate in investing in facilities, providing high-quality care services, suitable to the socio-economic conditions of each locality.

The city also strives to contribute to raising the average life expectancy of its people to 75.5 years by 2030, of which the minimum number of healthy years will be 68 years, reaching over 80 years by 2045.
