Today, storm Matmo (storm No. 11) is forecast to sweep across the Leizhou Peninsula (China) and then enter the Gulf of Tonkin, gradually weakening in intensity. Early tomorrow morning, the storm will directly affect our mainland.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at 5:00 a.m. on October 5, the center of storm Matmo was about 150km east of Hainan Island (China), and about 550km east-southeast of Quang Ninh .

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 12 (118-133km/h), gusting to level 15.

It is forecast that from this morning to this afternoon, storm Matmo will continue moving west-northwest at a speed of about 20-25km/h and make landfall on Leizhou peninsula (China).

At 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, the storm center was in the western area of ​​Loi Chau peninsula, about 250km east-southeast of Quang Ninh. The storm's intensity is likely still at level 12, gusting to level 15.

This evening and tonight, the storm will enter the Gulf of Tonkin and head towards the sea area of ​​Quang Ninh - Hai Phong , the storm's intensity is likely to gradually weaken.

At 4am tomorrow morning, the storm center will be on the coast of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong province, the storm intensity is likely to be level 9 (75-88km/h), gusting to level 12.

In the early morning to tomorrow morning, the storm will make landfall in Quang Ninh, then move further inland and gradually weaken into a tropical depression, a low pressure area over the mountainous region of the North.

Due to the influence of storm Matmo, from tonight, October 5, on land in coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Hung Yen , winds will gradually increase to level 6-7, near the storm's eye, winds will increase to level 8-9, gusting to level 10-11.

Inland areas in the Northeast have strong winds of level 4-5, in some places level 6, gusting to level 7-8.

Coastal areas and islands of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong provinces have storm surges of 0.4-0.6m high.

Beware of flooding in low-lying coastal and estuary areas due to rising water and large waves from this afternoon and evening.

From tonight until the end of the night of October 7, in the mountainous and midland areas of the North, there will be heavy rain, with average rainfall of 150-250mm, and locally very heavy rain of over 400mm.

The Northern Delta region and Thanh Hoa have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall of 70-150mm, locally very heavy rain over 200mm.

Hanoi area is unlikely to be affected by storms. It is forecasted that from early tomorrow morning (October 6) to the end of October 7, there will be moderate to heavy rain, with common rainfall of 70-120mm, locally over 150mm.

Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 150mm in 3 hours causing flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

At the same time, it is necessary to guard against the risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind both before and during the storm./.

Today, in the northwestern sea of ​​the North East Sea, there are strong winds of level 8-10, near the storm center level 11-13, gusts of level 15-16, waves 4-6m high, near the storm center 6-8m, rough seas.

From this afternoon, the sea area east of the northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi special zone) will have winds gradually increasing to level 6-7, then increasing to level 8-9.

From tonight, the northern area of ​​Bac Bo Gulf (including Bach Long Vi, Van Don, Co To, Cat Hai and Hon Dau Island) will have strong winds of level 8-9, waves 2-4m high, the area near the storm center will have winds of level 10-11, gusts of level 14, waves 3-5m high, and very rough seas.
