Minh Xuan farmers have a bumper spring rice crop

It has been a long time since farmers in Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district had a bumper spring rice crop. From every alley, hamlet to the fields, everywhere you can see the radiant image of farmers chatting excitedly about the good rice.

This season, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung's family in Trang Thanh village was very excited to have a bumper rice crop. "This season, my family planted more than 7 sao, mainly Nhi Uu 838, Thuy Huong 308, Thien Uu 8 and pure Bac Thom No. 7 rice. Thanks to planting on the right schedule, regularly visiting the fields to detect pests and diseases, and fertilizing according to the correct process and cycle, the rice yield reached nearly 58 quintals/ha, much higher than previous seasons."

As for Mrs. Hoang Thi Bay's family in Tong Rang village, this spring rice crop has been planted on more than 8 sao, and has basically finished harvesting, with high rice yields. "This year's rice crop is very good, my family planted Nhi Uu 838, Thuy Huong 308, Viet Lai 20, these are varieties that all produce long panicles, many grains, and are resistant to black-striped dwarf disease, with a higher percentage of whole rice, soft, sticky rice and a rich flavor," said Mrs. Bay.

Entering the spring crop of 2025, under the direct direction of the District People's Committee, the People's Committee of Minh Xuan commune has directed farmers to proactively develop plans and organize production with specific measures, especially implementing the correct structure of varieties and the agricultural sector's seasonal calendar; at the same time, there are solutions to overcome production when the weather is complicated. Thereby, Minh Xuan has done a good job of propaganda, directing 100% of people in the villages to sow and plant according to the seasonal calendar; if the weather is cold and the temperature drops, 100% of the sown seedlings must be covered with plastic, focusing on pest prevention and control, applying scientific and technical advances in production...

Comrade Nguyen Thi Mai Huong - Secretary of the Minh Xuan Commune Party Committee said: "In the 2025 spring crop, the commune has planted 210 hectares. The structure of 60% of the area is hybrid rice varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, Thuy Huong 308, Thai Xuyen 111 and 40% of the area is planted with pure rice varieties such as Bac Thom No. 7, TBR 225, Bac Huong No. 9, ST 25, various types of sticky rice. Although there were a few cold spells at the beginning of the season, basically people regularly visited the fields, grasped the situation of pests and diseases; proactively provided seeds, fertilizers, actively prevented and controlled pests and diseases, so the rice plants grew well, at the end of the season the rice yield reached nearly 58 quintals/ha".

As a locality with a large rice growing area in the district, farmers in Minh Xuan have experience in sowing and caring for rice. Accordingly, in addition to the "favorable weather and favorable terrain" factor, it is necessary to proactively do a good job of caring for rice seedlings, especially covering seedlings with plastic to protect them from the cold; expanding direct sowing, balanced fertilization, early fertilization; increasing the use of NPK compound fertilizers to replace single fertilizers, supplementing foliar micronutrient fertilizers; regulating water reasonably; regularly monitoring the fields... to create healthy rice fields, increase resistance, reduce the occurrence and damage of pests and diseases.

Furthermore, to improve the productivity and quality of rice production, in the 2025 spring rice crop, Minh Xuan commune continues to coordinate with the Agricultural Development Support Service Center of Luc Yen district to guide people on pest and disease prevention techniques, organize many field conferences with new rice varieties (DT68, VNR88) that are resistant to pests and diseases and adaptable to ecological conditions, thereby adding to the seed structure, introducing new quality rice varieties into cultivation for high yield, quality and economic value.

With the motto "Green house is better than old field", taking advantage of favorable weather, Minh Xuan commune is directing farmers to mobilize all resources to urgently harvest rice, free up land, and prepare for the winter-spring crop production. Thanks to that, up to now, the whole commune has harvested over 50% of the area, with an estimated yield of nearly 58 quintals/ha. To ensure early winter-spring crop production on over 100ha, immediately after the spring harvest, Minh Xuan continues to direct people to proactively prepare the land, sow rice, provide enough fertilizer, irrigation water... to continue striving for victory in this year's winter-spring crop.
