People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh, former Director of the Youth Theater and former Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts, passed away on the evening of September 3 at the age of 84.

People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh was born in 1941 in Hue, the daughter of Mr. Dong Ly Ngu Tien Van Phong Pham Khac Hoe - who had great contributions in persuading King Bao Dai to abdicate and was trusted by President Ho Chi Minh .

At the age of 14, she joined the Central Art Troupe. In 1970, the female artist was sent by the State to the former Soviet Union to study stage directing. After 7 years, she returned to Vietnam with director Ha Nhan to write a project to establish the Youth Theater. In 1987, the Theater was established, Ms. Ha Nhan was the Director, and Ms. Pham Thi Thanh was the Deputy Director. People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh recruited and trained many famous actors such as Le Khanh, Lan Huong, Anh Tu, Minh Hang...

People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh directed more than 200 plays, of which nearly 20 won gold medals and some won silver medals. She directed the 990th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi , the 330th anniversary of Khanh Hoa, the 100th anniversary of Da Lat, the Hue Festival...

During the period 1991 - 1996, she held the position of Director of the Youth Theater, then Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts.
