People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh has passed away.

People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh, former Director of the Youth Theatre and former Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts, passed away on the evening of September 3rd at the age of 84.

People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh was born in 1941 in Hue, the daughter of Pham Khac Hoe, the Chief of the Imperial Office, who played a major role in persuading Emperor Bao Dai to abdicate and was trusted by President Ho Chi Minh .

At the age of 14, she joined the Central Performing Arts Troupe. In 1970, the artist was sent by the State to the former Soviet Union to study stage directing. After 7 years, she returned to Vietnam and, together with director Ha Nhan, wrote a proposal to establish the Youth Theatre. In 1987, the theatre was established, with Ms. Ha Nhan as Director and Ms. Pham Thi Thanh as Deputy Director. People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh recruited and trained many famous actors such as Le Khanh, Lan Huong, Anh Tu, Minh Hang...

People's Artist Pham Thi Thanh has directed over 200 plays, nearly 20 of which won gold medals and several silver medals. She directed plays for the 990th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi , the 330th anniversary of the founding of Khanh Hoa, the 100th anniversary of Da Lat, the Hue Festival, and more.

From 1991 to 1996, she held the position of Director of the Youth Theatre, and later as Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts.
