The approximately 30-square-meter house of Siu H'Hoa's family, located in Hamlet 1, Phu Thien town, Gia Lai province, is filled with laughter these days. Neighbors were all surprised to hear that the 25-year-old nurse had been drafted into military service.

H'Hoa is the fourth child in a family facing financial difficulties.

H'Hoa is the fourth child in a family facing financial difficulties.

As the fourth of six sisters in a disadvantaged family in the region, H'Hoa always dreamed of becoming a police officer since childhood. For various reasons, after graduating from high school, H'Hoa had to choose a different path, majoring in nursing at Tra Vinh University with the sole thought that "after graduation, I must have a job."

In March 2023, after graduating from university, H'Hoa applied for a job at My Phuoc General Hospital ( Binh Duong province).

In the middle of last year, after learning about the recruitment of women for compulsory service in the People's Public Security Force, H'Hoa asked the hospital's leadership for permission to register for service.

“When I heard the news of my acceptance, I was very surprised because I didn't think I could fulfill my long-cherished dream. I will strictly abide by the unit's regulations and strive to study and train well so that I can serve in the police force for a long time, contributing to building and protecting the Fatherland. I am very excited to wait for the day I leave to join the army,” H’Hoa said with an enthusiastic voice.

Putting aside her work as a nurse, H'Hoa volunteered to enlist in the army.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rmah Thêu - H'Hoa's father - has been restless these past few days, half happy and half worried, wondering if his daughter is doing well in the military environment.

"My daughter is very determined because joining the police force has been her dream since she was little. My family fully supports her aspirations. When we heard the news that she was accepted, everyone was overjoyed, and many neighbors came to congratulate her. My family hopes that this will be a good environment for her to train, study, and grow," Mr. Thêu said.

Mr. Ksor Tâm, Party Secretary and Head of Neighborhood Group 1, said that H'Hoa's family is classified as near-poor. Besides H'Hoa, there is Siu H'Cúc, who is studying at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Siu Hiên (born in 2002), a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; and the eldest sister, Siu H'Mãi, who is currently the Secretary of the Youth Union of Phu Thien town.

According to Major Le Trong Vuong, Head of the Phu Thien Town Police, this year 12 out of 35 citizens in the locality were recruited to serve in the People's Police. Among them, H'Hoa is the only female case in Phu Thien district.

“During our interactions, we found H’Hoa to be ambitious and passionate about the police profession. We hope that H’Hoa will strive to overcome difficulties, work hard to complete her duties well, and serve for a long time in the People’s Police force,” said Major Vuong.
