Within the framework of attending the Conference of the Council of Ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), on the morning of June 6 in Paris (France), Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann.
Expressing his pleasure to meet again with Secretary General Mathias Cormann, Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the good cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the OECD, reflected in many important cooperation results such as OECD policy advisory reports for Vietnam, technical assistance programs, and capacity building in many fields.
Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed the completion of an action plan to implement the Vietnam-OECD Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the period 2022-2026.
The Minister suggested that the OECD continue to promote support for policy advice to help Vietnam restructure its economy, renew its growth model based on scientific and technological development, and promote innovation and the digital economy; coordinate, support and advise Vietnam on new issues such as global minimum tax, carbon emission reduction, environmental protection, etc.

Besides, the Minister also asked the OECD to assist in finding resources to implement cooperation projects between the two sides; support Vietnam to fulfill its role as Co-Chair of the Southeast Asia Program (SEARP) 2022-2025, firstly to organize the 2nd Southeast Asia-OECD Ministerial Forum in October 10.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann thanked Minister Bui Thanh Son for attending the 2023 OECD Council Ministerial Meeting, demonstrating Vietnam's active role and contribution as Co-Chair of the Southeast Asia Program.

Expressing his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, the Secretary-General affirmed that the OECD will continue to accompany Vietnam in the process of economic development towards a green and sustainable direction, ready to send experts to support Vietnam to implement regulations related to the global minimum tax.

The Secretary-General also emphasized that the OECD attaches great importance to the role of Southeast Asia, thanking Vietnam, as its Co-Chair, for promoting the Southeast Asia Program more effectively and effectively, and agreed to work with Vietnam to prepare well for the 2nd OECD-Southeast Asia Ministerial Meeting at the initiative of Vietnam in October in Hanoi.
