On the afternoon of November 11, the 19th term Executive Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee elected Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee to hold the position of Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee (term 2020 - 2025).

Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung (50 years old, from Tinh Hai commune, Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province) has a master's degree in political economy, bachelor's degree in economics, and bachelor's degree in English.

In 2019, Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung was appointed as Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment. Previously, Mr. Trung held the following positions: Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel, Director of the Department of Local and Territorial Economy, Director of the Department of Infrastructure and Urban Areas ( Ministry of Planning and Investment ).

In March 2020, Mr. Trung was transferred to Nghe An to work as Deputy Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, then was elected by Nghe An Provincial People's Council to hold the position of Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung was elected to hold the position of Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee to replace Mr. Thai Thanh Quy - who was recently assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission.
