This ancient citadel was discovered on a plateau in the Andes Mountains, about 225km northeast of Machu Picchu, and has undergone excavations between 2019 and 2024.

Peru announces ancient city of importance comparable to Machu Picchu.
T'aqrachullo, meaning "mother stone," comprises 700 structures, mostly made of stone, which once served as homes or places of worship.
Archaeologist Emerson Pereyra shared: "T'aqrachullo is no less important in terms of archaeological value than Machu Picchu. It not only served as a site for religious and spiritual activities, but also contained memorials, tombs, and storage facilities of the ancient Andeans."
At the 17.4-hectare site that was once an Inca city, scientists have also discovered nearly 3,000 pieces of gold, silver, and copper in recent years.

An ancient city called T'aqrachullo, with thousands of unearthed artifacts, may be a sacred site mentioned in ancient chronicles.
Emerson Pereyra, archaeologist: "To date, 70% of the project has been completed, with the remaining 30% being restored, researched, and displayed."
Peru is home to hundreds of archaeological sites, including ancient cities from the pre- and post-Inca Empire eras that ruled parts of South America.
