By 2026, the Mining Construction Company – dubbed the "steel fist" of TKV – has affirmed its leading role by operating 7 modern semi-mechanized production lines.
According to Deputy Director of the Mining Construction Company, Dang Van Hanh, in 2025, the production lines were deployed at the Khe Tam mine area (Duong Huy Coal Company) and the Nga Hai mine (Quang Hanh Coal Company). In 2026, the semi-mechanized lines will be deployed at the Nam Mau mine (Nam Mau Coal Company) and the Khe Tam mine (Duong Huy Coal Company). Specifically, at the Nga Hai mine (Quang Hanh Coal Company), the first production line for the cross-seam tunnel at the -300m level maintained a stable output of 65m/month. At the Khe Tam mine (Duong Huy Coal Company), the technological capacity was further demonstrated when the production lines for the rail tunnel and water storage tunnel at the -250m level achieved an average output of 70m/month. In particular, line number 7 (a collaborative line with the Institute of Mining Science , Technology and Energy - Vinacomin) is constructing a cross-seam tunnel at Nam Mau Coal Company with an excavation cross-section of 15.6 m² , achieving an average construction progress of 80 m/month.

In addition to investing in synchronized tunnel excavation lines, the Mining Construction Company has also partially or fully mechanized the work in the tunnel excavation and support stages. Specifically, 100% of the drilling for blast holes uses CMJ-14, CMJ-17, CMM drilling rigs, and YT-28 and 29 pneumatic drilling machines. The rock and soil breaking process uses blasting. For the rock and soil excavation stage, the company has introduced excavators of various types: ZCY-60, ZCY-45, ZWY-60, ZWY-80, and scrapers PY-30 and PY-60. Notably, the previously labor-intensive transportation stage has been replaced by single- and double-headed electric trains, winches for inclined tunnels excavated downwards, and B800 and B650 conveyor belts. The company has invested in two conveyor belt systems operating at a 24-degree slope, which are proving very efficient.
"With the synchronization of mechanized and semi-mechanized tunnel excavation equipment lines, the current construction speed of the Mining Construction Company is the highest ever. For tunnels excavated in rock with a cross-section of 15.9 m² , the average speed is over 60 m/month. For tunnels excavated with a cross-section of 17.8 m² , the average speed is over 55 m/month. The current tunnel excavation speed is 30-50% higher than the target set by the Group," added Mr. Dang Van Hanh, Deputy Director of the Mining Construction Company.
At Duong Huy Coal Company, a unit facing numerous geological challenges, with areas experiencing significant faulting and rock entrapment, mechanization in coal and rock tunnel excavation has received strong investment. In 2025, Duong Huy Coal completed 26,470m of tunnels, achieving 100% of the plan, an increase of nearly 1,000m compared to 2024. The EBH-45 combined tunnel boring machine helped the unit maintain coal tunnel excavation progress for many months, reaching over 125m. In addition, the unit is maintaining stable semi-mechanized tunnel faces with hydraulic drilling rigs and side-loading excavators.
Mr. Tran Quang Vinh, Deputy Director of Duong Huy Coal Company, said: In addition to investing in machinery and equipment, Duong Huy Coal Company is also applying effective solutions for tunnel excavation and support. Among these, the methods of water injection and chemical injection to reinforce the tunnel face, and temperature control of the blasting flow, have yielded clear results. In particular, the conversion from steel supports to anchor supports, considered a revolution in support materials, has been implemented by TKV since 2004 and is still being skillfully applied by Duong Huy Coal Company. As a result, the company's overall labor productivity has reached 1,074 tons/person/year, far exceeding the set plan. The quality of raw coal from Duong Huy Coal Company also meets the plan with an almost absolute Ak ratio as required by TKV.

During the period 2021-2025, TKV mobilized a total of 39 synchronized mechanized tunneling lines. Of these, 24 rock tunneling lines are focusing on cross-seam tunnels, preparing for long-term mining areas. 15 coal tunneling lines use modern combine harvesters to increase the speed of coal extraction.
While in 2021, the output of mechanized tunnel excavation using combine harvesters was 3,511m/254,769m of new tunnels, by 2025 it had increased to 10,684m/279,443m of new tunnels, and in the first four months of 2026 it was 2,923m/286,807m of new tunnels according to the annual plan. To date, the number of mechanized tunnel excavation lines using EBH-45 combine harvesters at TKV is 16, an increase of 12 lines compared to 2021. Regarding semi-mechanization in tunnel excavation, as of April 2026, the output of semi-mechanized tunnel excavation using drilling rigs combined with excavators is 1,368m/286,807m of new tunnels according to the annual plan (equivalent to 0.5%). The total number of semi-mechanized production lines maintained by TKV is 22.
Currently, TKV is not only investing in machinery but also reviewing and reassessing the entire system to provide specific directions for each unit. In particular, the Mining Construction Company continues to play a leading role in constructing large-section mine tunnels using the most modern technology. Other mining units will base their mechanization efforts on actual production conditions to maximize mechanization in all stages.
