On the morning of May 18th, the People's Committee of Vinh Vien commune ( Can Tho City) collaborated with partner businesses to organize a workshop demonstrating cluster-planting machines in a rice production linkage model applying straw and stubble treatment techniques and product buyback agreements. This activity aims to promote the implementation of the Project to cultivate 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the area.

At the workshop, delegates visited a demonstration of a cluster seeding machine in the Cau Lo Lon field (Hamlet 2, Vinh Vien Commune), where Saigon Kim Hong Trading and Service Co., Ltd. provided technical transfer. The model offers two integrated, core technical solutions for the fields. The cluster seeding technology using a machine helps distribute seeds evenly, reducing the sowing rate to below 60-70 kg/ha. This density saves seeds and labor, while also creating better aeration for effective pest and disease management and minimizing the use of pesticides.
Previously, this rice field had undergone a circular straw treatment process using a rotary tiller combined with direct application of microbial preparations to shorten the decomposition time, implemented by Phan Tan Agricultural Machinery Company. This solution helps straw decompose quickly, transforming it into organic fertilizer returned to the soil, reducing the cost of chemical fertilizers and significantly cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Mr. Vo Xuan Tan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Vien commune, the locality has a strong advantage in rice cultivation with an area of over 4,000 hectares planted each season. Faced with the pressure of rising agricultural input prices, changing farming methods is an urgent requirement to increase the value of rice. Currently, the commune has planned and implemented 7 high-quality rice specialized cultivation areas with a total area of nearly 750 hectares, supporting cooperatives in upgrading irrigation infrastructure and internal field transportation. The goal is to have 1,500 hectares of the entire commune applying advanced rice production processes by 2030, participating in the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice.
Besides the technical solutions from Saigon Kim Hong Company and Phan Tan Agricultural Machinery Company, the highlight of the model is its supply chain linkage. In addition to providing microorganisms for straw treatment, 175 Crop Production Joint Stock Company also commits to signing contracts to purchase the entire rice production in the linked area, provided that farmers comply with the standardized cultivation process transferred by the company.
The collaboration between the government, businesses, and farmers in Vinh Vien opens up a sustainable path, helping to stabilize output and increase income for rice growers in the Mekong Delta.
