Saigon is a place where many different cultures intersect, including an ancient culture that contributed to the foundation of Saigon in the past - the Chinese people. The Chinese (mainly Chaozhou and Fujian people) have lived in Chinatown District 5 since the 18th century. In the 1950s, 90% of the population was Chinese. Currently, only about 60% of the Chinese continue to settle here. Most of the Chinese in District 5 speak Vietnamese as well as the original Saigonese.

The houses in Chinatown District 5 are built in the traditional Hong Kong style, with classic colors such as blue, yellow and bright red. In front of the house, red parallel sentences or peace charms are often hung to bring luck and peace to the family. The shops are also named in both Vietnamese and Chinese, which is extremely unique.
