On October 9th, the Government Office sent Official Letter No. 7385/VPCP-KGVX to the Minister of Education and Training, informing him of the Deputy Prime Minister's directive regarding the handling of press reports about Hanoi University of Technology students having to eat "leftover rice and soup" and having "foreign objects" in their meals.

The A15 cafeteria at Hanoi University of Science and Technology has temporarily suspended operations after media reports that new students were forced to eat "leftover rice and soup," and that some meals contained "foreign objects."

According to this document, several newspapers recently reported on the substandard quality of meals provided to students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology during their two-week national defense and security education course.

Regarding this matter, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long instructed the Ministry of Education and Training to take the lead and coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to urgently direct the inspection and strictly handle violations according to regulations.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology's A15 cafeteria closed after 'leftover food and soup' incident.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Education and Training to strengthen guidance, management, and inspection of food hygiene and safety for students in educational institutions, ensuring quality and safety, and preventing similar incidents from recurring.

As reported by Thanh Nien newspaper, according to media reports, new students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology were given "leftover rice and soup scraps" to eat, with "foreign objects" found in their meals during their national defense and security education course. Meanwhile, students are required to pay 85,000 VND per day for meals (15,000 VND for breakfast, 35,000 VND per meal for two main meals), eating at the A15 cafeteria, the student cafeteria of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

According to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the approach of the University's Board of Directors is to take direct responsibility, publicly disclose information, and strictly handle the relevant groups and individuals to ensure the rights of students are protected.

According to Associate Professor Huynh Dang Chinh, Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, as early as the morning of October 8th, Hanoi University of Science and Technology terminated its contract with Bach Khoa Investment and Trading Service Joint Stock Company, the unit providing meals for new students during their national defense and security education period. At the same time, the A15 cafeteria has been temporarily closed, as Bach Khoa Investment and Trading Service Joint Stock Company has also been the winning bidder for catering services at the A15 cafeteria for many years.

Earlier that day, the Department of National Defense and Security Education of the Ministry of Education and Training, along with local health authorities, inspected and worked with the school. The results have not yet been announced. Associate Professor Huynh Dang Chinh also affirmed that the matter has not ended here. Hanoi University of Science and Technology's stance is to continue working with relevant authorities to clarify the situation, not only to thoroughly resolve the matter but also to prevent recurrence.
