- Given the reality that drowning accidents among children still occur in the area, and with the summer vacation approaching, the education sector has implemented a comprehensive awareness campaign in schools, helping students identify risks and proactively protect themselves in aquatic environments.
From the beginning of 2026 to the present, the province has experienced 8 consecutive drowning incidents resulting in 9 child deaths; on April 11th alone, two incidents occurred in Trang Dinh commune, claiming the lives of 3 children. These figures highlight the need for a clearer understanding of the risk level, especially as students prepare for their summer vacation. In response to this situation, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Document No. 956 dated April 20, 2026, requesting departments, agencies, and localities to strengthen preventive measures. Specifically, the Department of Education and Training is tasked with directing educational institutions to intensify the dissemination of knowledge and skills on drowning prevention to students.

Following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Education and Training has requested educational institutions to implement comprehensive solutions, focusing on building a safe school environment, proactively coordinating with local authorities to review and warn about areas with potential drowning risks; and organizing the dissemination of knowledge and skills on drowning prevention to each class and each student. In addition, schools are encouraged to promote swimming lessons and life skills training for students.
In Tri Le commune, during April 2026, drowning prevention activities were simultaneously organized at three schools (Tri Le Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, Tri Le Primary School 1, and Tri Le Primary School 2), combining instruction on skills and practical handling of situations for students. At Yen Khoai Primary School (Mau Son commune), the school coordinated with the police force to conduct awareness campaigns for hundreds of students, integrating the distribution of materials and guidance on identifying safety risks and drowning hazards during the summer...
Not only at the aforementioned schools, but in recent days, schools from primary to high school throughout the province have been actively promoting this issue. After participating in the awareness session and hearing about recent drowning incidents, Hoang Long Vu, a 7th-grade student at Chi Lang Secondary School (That Khe commune), said: He is now more aware of the dangers of swimming in rivers and streams; therefore, he reminds himself not to swim without an adult accompanying him, and also shares this information with his friends to help prevent such incidents.
With over 640 schools and more than 200,000 students, incorporating drowning prevention into regular activities has been identified by the education sector as a fundamental solution. Educational institutions have proactively integrated this content into flag-raising ceremonies, class activities, and daily educational activities; coordinated the review and warning of dangerous areas, organized swimming lessons, and maintained contact with families in managing students.
Activities implemented before the summer break demonstrate that prevention measures were put in place early and effectively. When schools proactively equip students with skills, families maintain supervision, and students develop self-protection awareness, the risk of drowning accidents will be gradually controlled and minimized under the local conditions.
