Parents are worried about finding a place for their children to study.

Since July 1st, many officials, civil servants, and workers from the former Binh Phuoc province have officially moved to work at the Dong Nai provincial administrative center. Besides arranging accommodation, work, and transportation, many officials and civil servants have to bring their children along so they can be close to and care for them.

For convenience in their work, most officials and civil servants seek housing in the Biên Hòa, Trấn Biên, Tam Hiệp, and Trảng Dài wards. Therefore, schools in these wards are also the top choice for parents.

There's no shortage of places to study, but you still have to compete.

Anticipating a large influx of students moving to schools in wards near the provincial administrative center, starting in June 2025, the Department of Education and Training has requested schools to compile statistics on their student capacity for each grade level (excluding the first grades of each level).

Schools from preschool to high school in the wards of Tran Bien, Bien Hoa, Tam Hiep, Long Binh, Long Hung, and Tam Phuoc have submitted detailed statistical reports. According to these reports, grades 2, 3, and 5 can accommodate a total of 1,800-2,100 students per grade; grades 7, 8, and 9 can accommodate a total of over 370-750 students per grade; grade 11 can accommodate 98 students, and grade 12 can accommodate 155 students.

Meanwhile, according to statistics as of June 29th, only 385 students in Binh Phuoc and Dong Xoai wards will transfer to study in the central area of Dong Nai province (including 72 kindergarten students, 158 primary school students, 117 junior high school students, and 38 high school students).

Following the provincial merger, the school transfer procedure for students will follow the same procedures as for transfers within the province. Parents or guardians must contact educational institutions directly to receive guidance on the transfer procedures as prescribed.

However, the much higher capacity compared to the number of students transferring in does not mean that parents can easily find a suitable school for their children. According to registrations, most parents wish to enroll their children in "prestigious schools" in the central areas of Tran Bien, Bien Hoa, and Tam Hiep wards, such as Huong Duong Kindergarten, Hoa Sen Kindergarten, Nguyen An Ninh Primary School, Quang Vinh Primary School, Hung Vuong Secondary School, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, and Le Quang Dinh Secondary School…

Meanwhile, these schools have very low student capacity due to overcrowding. For example, Nguyen An Ninh Primary School (Tam Hiep ward) has almost no capacity to accept more students, but 20 parents have expressed a desire for their children to attend this school. Similarly, more than 20 parents want to enroll their children in Trinh Hoai Duc Primary School, but this school also has no capacity. At the secondary level, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School can only accept 21 students but has received 47 applications…

The principal of a primary school in Tam Hiep ward said: "The school's capacity to accept students is limited, so parents who submit applications first are accepted. Parents who submit applications later and find all the spots are taken have to be turned down and advised to go to another school that is most convenient for them."

Parents are still considering their options.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (formerly working at the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Binh Phuoc province) and his wife will be relocating to the new administrative center of Dong Nai province. Since both husband and wife are moving, their two children will be transferring to the new school.

Mr. Thanh said that due to his busy work schedule, he hadn't been able to personally visit and thoroughly research schools that suited his child's abilities and aptitudes. Instead, he registered his child at Tam Hoa Secondary School and Tam Hoa Primary School based on the list of schools provided by the Dong Nai Department of Education and Training.

Civil servants and public employees should base their requests for school transfers on the needs of educational institutions and their living and working areas. For high school students, parents should discuss the subject combinations thoroughly with high schools before proceeding with the transfer process.

"I'll apply for my child to attend the new school. If the new school accepts him, I'll go back to the old school to withdraw his records," Mr. Thanh shared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Than Van Tin (who works at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center) and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (who works at the Provincial Center for Disease Control), are still hesitant about transferring their two children to another school.

Mr. Tin said that he is certain to be transferred to work at the provincial administrative center, while his wife is still unsure whether she will stay or leave. However, to be on the safe side, he has enrolled his two children (in grades 1 and 7) in schools near his new workplace.

According to Mr. Tin, if his wife is allowed to stay at her workplace in Binh Phuoc ward, he will let the children study at the same schools as before, thus avoiding a change in environment and staying close to their mother.

According to Pham Thi Hai Anh, Principal of Trang Dai Secondary School (Trang Dai Ward), the school is ready to receive and facilitate the transfer of their children to other schools by parents from Binh Phuoc province. In fact, some parents have come to inquire, and the school has guided them through the transfer procedures, but they have not contacted the school again since.
