Parents worry about finding a place for their children to study

Since July 1, many officials, civil servants and workers from Binh Phuoc province (old) have officially come to work at the administrative center of Dong Nai province. In addition to taking care of accommodation, work and transportation, many officials and civil servants have to bring their children along to be close to and take care of them.

For work convenience, most officials and civil servants find housing in the wards of Bien Hoa, Tran Bien, Tam Hiep, Trang Dai. Therefore, schools in these wards are also the top choice of parents.

No worries about lack of places to study but still have to compete

Anticipating that a large number of students will move to study in wards near the provincial administrative center, from June 2025, the Departmentof Education and Training has requested schools to compile statistics on the capacity to receive students in each grade (excluding the first grade).

Schools from kindergarten to high school in the wards of Tran Bien, Bien Hoa, Tam Hiep, Long Binh, Long Hung, Tam Phuoc have reported specific statistics. Accordingly, for grades 2, 3, 5, a total of 1.8-2.1 thousand students/grade can be accepted; grades 7, 8, 9 can be accepted in total of more than 370-750 students/grade; grade 11 can be accepted 98 students, grade 12 can be accepted 155 students.

Meanwhile, according to statistics as of June 29, only 385 students in Binh Phuoc and Dong Xoai wards will move to study in the central area of Dong Nai province (including 72 preschool students, 158 primary school students, 117 secondary school students and 38 high school students).

After the province is merged, the school transfer procedure for students is carried out according to the intra-provincial school transfer procedure. Parents or guardians must directly contact the educational institutions for instructions on school transfer procedures according to regulations.

However, the fact that the capacity is much higher than the number of students transferring does not mean that parents can easily find a suitable place for their children to study. Because according to the registration, the majority of parents wish to register their children to study at "key schools" in the central area of Tran Bien, Bien Hoa and Tam Hiep wards such as: Huong Duong kindergarten, Hoa Sen kindergarten, Nguyen An Ninh primary school, Quang Vinh primary school, Hung Vuong secondary school, Tran Hung Dao secondary school, Le Quang Dinh secondary school...

Meanwhile, the capacity of these schools to accept students is very low, due to being overloaded. For example, Nguyen An Ninh Primary School (Tam Hiep Ward) has almost no capacity to accept more students, but there are 20 parents who want their children to study at this school. Similarly, there are more than 20 parents who want their children to study at Trinh Hoai Duc Primary School, but this school also does not have the capacity to accept them. At the secondary level, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School can only accept 21 students but has 47 wishes...

The principal of an elementary school in Tam Hiep ward said: “The school’s capacity to accept students is limited, so parents who come to submit their applications first will be accepted. Parents who come to submit their applications later and there are no more places, the school has to refuse and advise parents to go to another school for the most convenience.”

Parents still consider

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (working at the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the old Binh Phuoc province) and his wife will move to the new administrative center of Dong Nai province to work. Since both husband and wife are moving, they will transfer their two children to the new school.

Mr. Thanh said that due to being busy with work, he could not go to the place to learn about schools that were suitable for his child's abilities and strengths, but only through the list of schools provided by the Dong Nai Department of Education and Training and then registered as Tam Hoa Secondary School and Tam Hoa Primary School.

Officials, civil servants and public employees need to base on the reception needs of educational institutions and the area where they live and work to request a suitable school transfer for their children. For high school students, parents need to discuss thoroughly with high schools about the subject combination before carrying out the school transfer procedure.

“I will apply for my child to a new school. If the new school accepts him, I will return to the old school to withdraw my application,” Thanh shared.

Meanwhile, the couple Mr. Than Van Tin (working at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (working at the Provincial Disease Control Center) are still hesitant about transferring schools for their two children.

Mr. Tin said that he was definitely going to have to move to work at the provincial administrative center, while his wife still did not know whether to stay or go. However, to be “sure”, he registered his two children (grades 1 and 7) to study at schools near the new workplace.

According to Mr. Tin, if his wife could stay at her workplace in Binh Phuoc ward, he would let his children study at the same schools as before, without having to change the environment and being close to their mother.

According to the Principal of Trang Dai Secondary School (Trang Dai Ward) Pham Thi Hai Anh, the school is ready to accept and create the most favorable conditions for "Binh Phuoc parents" to transfer their children to another school. In fact, some parents have come to inquire, the school has also provided instructions on the transfer procedures but after that, the parents have not contacted them again.
