Pique was fined.

Former central defender Gerard Pique continues to be embroiled in controversy with Spanish referees following an incident in last week's match between Andorra and Albacete.

Pique was punished.

On May 6th, the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided to suspend Pique for six matches for behavior deemed to be threatening and insulting to the referee, and also imposed a two-month ban from all football activities.

It wasn't just Pique who received a harsh penalty; a number of members of Andorra's management also faced severe punishment. Sporting Director Jaume Nogues received a similar penalty to Pique, while President Ferran Vilaseca was banned from activities for four months for allegedly "attempting to assault a match official."

The head of the Andorra club delegation, Cristian Lanzarote, was also banned from activity for two months. In addition, several other members of the Andorra coaching staff were also disciplined.

The RFEF also decided to fine Andorra 1,500 euros and ordered the closure of the VIP area and the VIP stands of the stadium for the next two matches. This is the area where Pique frequently appears to watch matches of the team he owns.

Pique has repeatedly criticized the refereeing.

The incident stemmed from Andorra's 0-1 home defeat to Albacete. According to referee Alonso de Ena Wolf's report, Pique approached the refereeing team both at halftime and after the match. The report also documented several controversial statements made by the former Spanish international as he left the field, including: "Leave with security if you don't want to be attacked" and "In other countries, you would have been beaten already."

Sporting Director Nogues was also accused of threatening the referee with the statement: "I hope you have an accident." Meanwhile, President Vilaseca was accused of attempting to physically assault a match official. Andorra denied much of the referee's report, claiming the descriptions were exaggerated.

This isn't the first time Pique has been fined for conflicts with referees. Previously, the former Barcelona star criticized the referee after a match against Malaga, calling it a "historic robbery," which resulted in Andorra being fined 12,000 euros.

During the match against Deportivo, Pique continued to criticize the officiating, claiming that "smaller teams are always treated unfairly." In total, Andorra was fined over 40,000 euros for actions related to their reactions to the referee.

Notably, Pique currently holds no official position at Andorra on paper. However, the RFEF (French Football Federation) believes that the former star player is still involved in the club's management through his company, Kosmos, and frequently appears in areas reserved for club leaders. Therefore, the RFEF determined that Pique has a de facto managerial role and there is sufficient basis to impose a penalty.

Pique acquired a majority stake in Andorra in 2018. Currently, the team is playing in the Spanish second division and is ranked 10th in the league table.
