The live concert "The Memoir," which recently took place successfully at the Ho Guom Theater ( Hanoi ), is also a "memoir" from Qua Dua Hau (Watermelon) to their fans: the group will return and stay for a long time.
The music show "Watermelon" and "The Memoir" achieved more than just a concert; they evoked a whole realm of memories from the golden age of Vietnamese music. This was the period when the group's singers, such as Bang Kieu, Tuan Hung, and Tu Dua, consistently topped music charts, especially the "Green Wave" (a popular Vietnamese music genre). During the concert, those melodies, filled with nostalgia, resonated with the audience's voices, creating truly beautiful images.
Along with the two "Memoir" concerts, Quả Dưa Hấu (Watermelon) also released their self-titled EP, "Livesession," for this comeback. The EP includes 6 music videos, invested in both audio and visuals, with standard sound quality. Besides three songs that evoke memories of the past – "Late Summer" (Bằng Kiều), "Rain" (Tuấn Nghĩa), and "A Heart That Doesn't Sleep" (Thanh Tùng) – the EP also features new songs written specifically for the group. These include "Give Me One More Chance," "Unstoppable," with music written by Hồ Hoài Anh, also a former member of the group, and lyrics by journalist Hà Quang Minh; and "Thank You Music" by young songwriter Tùng Sax. They are no longer the same guys as before, but their experience has given their music added depth.
Watermelon (Quả Dưa Hấu) is a male music group that started in 1998 and quickly rose to fame nationwide. It can be considered Vietnam's first male music group, formed with four members: Bang Kieu, Tuan Hung, Anh Tu (Tu Dua), and Tuong Van; later, singer Minh Quan and musician Ho Hoai Anh successively replaced Bang Kieu. The singers met and became friends on various music stages, deciding to form a group called Watermelon. These young men, with their youthful, emotional, and masculine performances and distinctive dance style, captured the hearts of audiences with songs like "Late Summer," "Gentle Sunshine," "A Heart That Doesn't Sleep," "Whispering Spring," "Spring Afternoon," "Give Me One More Chance," and especially their cover of Backstreet Boys' "Get Down," which was warmly received by the audience.
It could be said that this comeback isn't about "starting over," but rather about continuing an unfinished chapter. After their impressive debut with "The Memoir," Watermelon will return as a three-member group consisting of Bang Kieu, Tuan Hung, and Tu Dua, performing on various music stages and projects. Most recently, the group will perform at the special live concert "Ticket Back to Youth," taking place at the My Dinh Athletics Stadium (Hanoi) on the evening of April 25th.
