Forest fires broke out in the protected forest area on the coastal sand dunes in northern Quang Tri province.
On the afternoon of May 26th, representatives from the People's Committee of Ninh Chau commune, Quang Tri province, announced that local authorities had successfully controlled a coastal forest fire in the area, effectively preventing it from spreading. Earlier that day, at approximately 1 PM, authorities discovered a small fire in Tan Dinh village, Ninh Chau commune.
At the same time, in the area where the fire occurred on May 25th, two new fires unexpectedly flared up again. Around 2:15 PM, the flames intensified; upon discovering the incident, task forces from the Commune Military Command, the Police, the Quang Ninh Forest Management Unit, and other related units, totaling approximately 100 people, immediately approached the scene to participate in firefighting. Thanks to proactive preparation, the fire was largely brought under control by around 4 PM the same day.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Long, Head of the Economic Department of Ninh Chau commune, shared that the prolonged hot weather combined with strong southwest winds and dense vegetation made firefighting extremely difficult; although the fire has been brought under control, there are still many smoldering embers at the scene, so the local authorities are continuing to maintain many patrol teams to prevent the risk of the fire reigniting, and are coordinating to clarify the cause and extent of the damage.
Notably, this is the second consecutive forest fire to occur in Quang Tri province in recent days. Previously, at around 8:00 AM on May 25th, another forest fire broke out in the acacia forest area bordering Quang Ninh and Ninh Chau communes.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Quang Ninh Forest Protection Department proactively coordinated closely with the Fire and Rescue Police, the Public Security forces, the Military, local authorities, militia, and a large number of local people to implement comprehensive measures to extinguish the fire.
Approximately 300 people were urgently mobilized to the scene, simultaneously implementing various proactive measures such as using high-powered water hoses, rapidly clearing undergrowth, and creating sturdy firebreaks to completely isolate the fire and resolutely prevent it from spreading to neighboring forest areas.
