Determined to successfully implement the IPU agenda

“Vietnamese senior leaders all pay special attention to the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians in particular and the IPU agenda in general,” the National Assembly Chairman stated.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue warmly welcomed IPU President Duarte Pacheco, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum President Dan Carden, and IPU Women Parliamentarians Group President Cynthia Iliana Lopez Castro to visit Vietnam and attend the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians.

Well organized many multilateral diplomatic events

The National Assembly Chairman thanked President Duarte Pacheco and the IPU Executive Board for enthusiastically supporting the Vietnamese National Assembly in hosting the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians; he said that the Vietnamese National Assembly had closely coordinated with the IPU Secretariat and proactively carried out preparations for the Conference early and remotely.

IPU President Duarte Pacheco sincerely thanked National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the Vietnamese National Assembly for giving the delegates attending the Conference a warm welcome and for making careful and respectful preparations, ensuring the conditions for the successful organization of the Conference.

The IPU President highly appreciated Vietnam's experience in organizing international multilateral diplomatic events, including the successful organization of the 132nd IPU General Assembly, showing that Vietnam clearly understands and is highly committed to achieving success in the IPU's agenda.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue stated: The Vietnamese National Assembly highly appreciates the role of the IPU, a prestigious multilateral forum in the world, operating with the goal of peace, cooperation, development, democracy, human rights, gender equality, progress and social justice, which has been playing an increasingly important role in promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanisms.

In particular, the IPU and the United Nations discuss solutions to global issues that no single country can solve on its own, making an important contribution to maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development worldwide.

In the context of the current rapidly developing, complex and unpredictable world situation, the National Assembly Chairman said that the operating mechanism of the IPU and the United Nations plays an even more important role. This is also an experience that regional inter-parliamentary organizations can learn from to discuss and resolve regional issues with regional organizations.

Actively and proactively implement IPU resolutions and initiatives

The National Assembly Chairman said that since becoming a member of the IPU in 1979, the Vietnamese National Assembly has always made efforts, actively and responsibly participated in IPU activities, and is ready to work with the IPU and the parliaments of member countries to implement IPU resolutions and initiatives to contribute to building peace and sustainable development for the common interests of humanity.

In particular, the Vietnamese National Assembly pays special attention to and supports the movement "Say yes to youth in Parliament" launched by the IPU and hopes that there will be more and more young parliamentarians in parliaments around the world.

"This also reflects the actual situation of Vietnam when it has a young population structure with children accounting for more than 25% of the total population, the number of young National Assembly deputies according to IPU standards is currently 124 people, accounting for more than 25% of the total number of National Assembly deputies," said the National Assembly Chairman.

The IPU President congratulated the Vietnamese National Assembly and its Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for truly placing trust in and inspiring the youth.

Having just attended the Discussion on “Enhancing digital capacity for youth” held within the framework of this Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, the IPU President emphasized that the discussion session showed the vitality of Vietnamese youth with enthusiastic opinions.

“Vietnamese youth also actively participated in the agenda of the Conference. This happened thanks to the National Assembly and the National Assembly Chairman giving space and creating opportunities for youth to have their voices heard,” said the IPU President.

The IPU President emphasized that the agenda at the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in the coming days is very important for the implementation of sustainable development goals and how to attract the participation of young people in implementing these goals.

Progress on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals has been significantly slowed down by the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and a number of other factors and priorities. However, this is the time when the international community must make every effort to achieve the success of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The IPU President fully agrees with the views of Vietnam and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on the need for global solutions to global problems.

He believes that in reality there will be differences in perceptions and viewpoints of different communities, groups and countries, but when we dialogue, which is what the IPU represents, we will reach a common understanding, find a common voice, cooperate closely with each other and have a strategy to change the status quo.

Emphasizing that the IPU understands that the future belongs to the youth and that youth participation, contributing opinions, ideas and solutions to global issues from the youth perspective are extremely important, the IPU President expressed his gratitude for the high commitment of the Vietnamese National Assembly, the full and responsible participation and the practical and effective contributions of Vietnam to the IPU agenda, demonstrating that Vietnam clearly understands what it wants to do and what it wants to contribute to the world and the region.

Affirming that Vietnam has a special position for the IPU, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong recalled Vietnam's achievements in successfully organizing the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015 in Hanoi, especially the Hanoi Declaration "Sustainable Development Goals: Turning Words into Actions" which has become the fulcrum for the IPU's operational strategy since then.

The IPU Secretary General stated that this Young Parliamentarians' Conference is an opportunity to review the implementation of the Hanoi Declaration and the Sustainable Development Goals, and to find solutions to promote the implementation of these goals through the participation of young people and young parliamentarians; how young people can participate in the policy-making process and propose measures to promote the successful implementation of the sustainable development goals.

Expressing his sincere thanks to the Vietnamese National Assembly for hosting the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians to help the IPU have a Forum to discuss the above issue, the IPU Secretary General also affirmed his firm belief in the excellent preparation work of the host country Vietnam for the Conference; believing that the results of the Conference will contribute to creating changes in the implementation of sustainable development goals.

On this occasion, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden shared the concerns of today's youth in their approach and perception of global issues and controversial issues such as gender, technology, poverty reduction, justice, and fairness.

The Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum expressed his great anticipation for the Conference's agenda in the coming days, listening to, respecting, and receiving the voices, recommendations, and proposals of young people on major issues.

Listening to the sharing of IPU leaders and the Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed: Vietnam is ready to continue hosting important IPU conferences, including the IPU General Assembly, the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, IPU conferences and seminars; send suitable representatives to run for leadership positions in important IPU mechanisms; hope that the IPU will continue to pay attention to and promote capacity building programs for parliamentarians and support apparatus of parliaments in general, and of the Vietnamese National Assembly in particular...

* This afternoon, at the National Convention Center, within the framework of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended and performed the opening ceremony of the Exhibition with the theme: Vietnam's Aspiration.

This is an important event in promoting innovative products imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity and traditions, along with scientific and technological achievements in Vietnam's digital transformation.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition with the theme of Vietnam's Aspiration, Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha expressed his hope that the exhibition would be a useful bridge for parliamentarians to exchange experiences on digital transformation, flexible adaptation solutions...

The organizers have selected outstanding products, many of which are products with the "made in Vietnam" brand that have reached the world, including artificial intelligence technology applied to drones from CT group or 5G network equipment provided by Viettel Group.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue; President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco; Permanent Vice President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, along with leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, and representatives of young parliamentarians from countries around the world performed the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

* On the evening of September 14, in Hanoi, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hosted a reception for delegates attending the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. Attending on the international side were: President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco; IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong; Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden; Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Youth Jayathma Wickramanayake.

Speaking at the reception, the National Assembly Chairman stated: The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians held in Hanoi this time is a special occasion for young parliamentarians from countries, regional and international parliamentary organizations to share their visions and valuable practical experiences, further promoting the role, position and voice of young parliamentarians and young people in promoting sustainable development goals (SDGs) through digital transformation, innovation and promoting respect for cultural diversity.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed his belief that through the Conference, a network of young parliamentarians around the world will be built and strengthened to join hands in working for a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous, better world where no one is left behind. Each young parliamentarian from member parliaments, promoting their youth, creativity, enthusiasm and responsibility, will make positive contributions to the success of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
