From the 25th day of the 12th lunar month, tangerine growers in Lai Vung, Dong Thap province, are busy harvesting tangerines to sell to traders. Lai Vung tangerines are a specialty fruit that is harvested only once a year for Tet (Lunar New Year), and this year, the prices are stable and orders are coming in early, creating excitement for the growers.
Observations at several mandarin orange orchards over the past two days have shown a bustling atmosphere, with orchard owners and workers busy harvesting fruit to sell to traders.

Mr. Phan Huu Danh, residing in Tan Phuoc commune, Lai Vung district, said that his tangerine orchard yielded 15 tons, and the tangerines were of good quality, so traders bought them quickly.
"Normally, around the 19th of the twelfth lunar month, I would water and wash the orchard to make the fruit trees fresh and ready to welcome traders to see them. But this year, the traders came early and closed deals quickly, getting a good price, so the orchard owners are happy."
"Currently, the price of pink tangerines is stable at 40,000 - 50,000 VND/kg. Small traders in Lai Vung are also taking advantage of the opportunity to buy them from the orchards to resell at traditional markets," Mr. Danh said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, a resident of Tan Thanh commune, Lai Vung district, said that she arrives at the garden early in the morning to harvest, and by 10 am she sorts and packs the goods to ship to customers who placed orders in advance.
"Tomorrow my warehouse will start packing a lot of goods, initially about 3 tons, and we'll sell whatever we can get in stock, but currently we're a bit short of goods, customers have placed too many orders," said Ms. Thuy.
Mr. Huynh Van Ton, deputy head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lai Vung district, said that the entire district has more than 500 hectares of pink tangerines, of which more than 200 hectares are bearing fruit for the Tet holiday.
"Our goal is not to expand the cultivated area, but to stabilize productivity at 20-25 tons/ha. The rest will focus on improving product quality and safety so that consumers accept the pink mandarin oranges, which we consider sustainable," Mr. Ton said.
