The 28-year-old striker was included by coach Thomas Tuchel in the England squad for the biggest football event on the planet. However, instead of mentioning Manchester United in his thank-you message, Rashford only expressed his gratitude to Unai Emery, Hansi Flick, Aston Villa, Barcelona, and the England national team.
This post quickly sparked controversy, with many arguing that Rashford was deliberately ignoring his boyhood club amidst uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford.
Following a backlash from fans, Rashford had to take to social media to clarify. He affirmed that the message was not an attack in any form directed at his club.
"I'm a Manchester United fan and that hasn't changed. I just want to thank the managers and clubs I've worked with over the last 18 months. They've been instrumental in helping me get back into the England squad," Rashford shared.
After a period of being sidelined under former manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford moved to Barcelona on loan and quickly revived his form. He contributed to the Catalan team winning La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, and Barca are considering a permanent transfer for around £26 million. However, the deal has not yet been completed, leaving Rashford's future uncertain ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have just appointed Michael Carrick as their new head coach and are preparing a squad overhaul. According to the English media, Rashford is not part of the Old Trafford club's long-term plans.
