The Information reports that the device, codenamed D23, has been completely redesigned, making significant changes similar to the iPhone X. Recently, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also released a series of specifications for this model.

Ultra-thin design
The iPhone SE is currently Apple's thinnest smartphone at 7.3 mm. The standard iPhone 15 model is 7.8 mm, while the iPad Pro tablet, running the M4 chip, is the company's thinnest mobile device at 5.1 mm. The Slim will be thinner than the SE, but it's currently unclear whether it will surpass the iPad Pro's thickness.
Replacement for iPhone 17 Plus
Some sources indicate that the Slim version will replace the iPhone 17 Plus, reducing user confusion as the iPhone 17 will still have four versions, instead of five. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple's decision is based on consistently low sales of the Plus models, accounting for less than 10% of sales for many years.
The screen is smaller than the Plus version.
The Slim version will have a smaller screen than the Plus version. According to Kuo's technical specifications, the Slim has a 6.6-inch screen, larger than the standard version's 6.1-inch screen but smaller than the Plus version's 6.7-inch screen. Previously, DSCC analyst Ross Young also mentioned similar information.
Other leaks suggest that the Slim might feature a 120Hz ProMotion display with a resolution of 2,740 x 1,260 pixels, lower than the 2,796 x 1,290 resolution of the iPhone 15 Plus.
The camera uses only a wide-angle lens.
The ultra-thin design also affects the camera setup on the iPhone 17 Slim. Accordingly, it only uses a single wide-angle lens, instead of two or three like the other versions. Furthermore, analysts suggest that reducing the thickness may result in shorter battery life, unless Apple finds a way to "free up" space for components.
Furthermore, the iPhone 17 Slim only has an A19 chip with 8GB of RAM, meaning it's slightly less powerful than the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which are expected to have the A19 Pro chip. Additionally, the Slim version is also said to use slightly less titanium than the Pro models. It also comes with either a single or dual camera system.
With the specifications mentioned above, it could be a strange product, especially considering the higher price than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Essentially, users will be paying more for aesthetics rather than functionality.
The rumored iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be very expensive, positioned similarly to the Ultra line on the Apple Watch. The iPhone 17 is predicted to have a starting price of $799, the 17 Pro at $1,099, the 17 Pro Max at $1,199, while the most expensive 17 Slim will cost up to $1,299.
