At 44 years old, Roger Federer has just reached another special milestone in his illustrious career. Not a Grand Slam title or a new record on the court, but his place on the list of the world's billionaires.
According to Forbes , the Swiss tennis legend has amassed an estimated fortune of over $1.1 billion and will officially be included in the billionaire rankings in 2026.
This is a reward for over two decades of dominance in tennis and shrewd moves off the court. Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles and a total of 103 championships in his professional career. That achievement makes him one of the greatest tennis players in history.
However, prize money from tournaments represents only a small fraction of Federer's wealth. Throughout his career, the Basel-born tennis player earned $130,339,594 in prize money from tournaments. The majority of his wealth comes from endorsement and commercial deals with major brands such as Uniqlo, Mercedes-Benz, Barilla, Rolex, Nike, and Wilson.
Behind those successful deals is his longtime agent, Tony Godsick. He not only accompanied Federer during his peak playing years but also served as a crucial partner in his later business ventures.
The two co-founded the Laver Cup exhibition tournament, an event that is becoming one of tennis's most attractive commercial products. The ninth edition of the tournament will take place in September at The O2 Arena in London, with Carlos Alcaraz expected to lead the European team.
In addition, Federer's management company, Team8, currently manages the careers of many prominent young tennis players such as Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton. Federer also invests in the Swiss sports brand On, which sponsors apparel for players like Iga Swiatek and João Fonseca.
Joining the billionaire list places Federer in a small group of athletes who have reached this milestone, alongside LeBron James and Tiger Woods. This is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Swiss tennis player, even after retiring from the sport.
Federer still has many plans for the future. One idea he mentioned is organizing an exhibition tour with Rafael Nadal. He also wants Nadal to be the captain of the European team at the Laver Cup in future seasons.
