In the winter of 1903, after many days of surveying, the expedition of the Indochina Geographical Service discovered the beautiful natural scenery and the fresh, cool climate. The French soon intended to develop Sa Pa into a resort town. This is considered the starting point for the formation of the Sa Pa tourist area. Sa Pa was considered the summer capital of Tonkin at that time. By 1935, many landmarks such as churches, hotels, restaurants, etc., had appeared specifically on the French tourist maps.
The veil of mystery surrounding the age and owners of the ancient rock carvings in Sa Pa remains a mystery to the scientific community. Along with the flow of Sa Pa's history, the legends and myths whispered by the locals for generations continue to be like a mysterious, captivating mist of this majestic land shrouded in clouds.
