If Klinsmann is sacked, the South Korean Football Association will have to pay a huge compensation.

South Korean television channel Channel A conducted an interview with lawyer Heo Joo-yeon regarding the South Korean national team's failure at the 2023 Asian Cup. During the interview, host Kim Jong-seok inquired about the compensation costs incurred by the South Korean team when they dismissed coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

" You have to look at the contract for more details. But based on the circumstances, there's no reason to fire coach Klinsmann without incurring contractual penalties ," said lawyer Heo Joo-yeon.

" There is an argument that if we unilaterally dismiss someone, we would have to pay 10 billion won (183 billion VND) in compensation. This is because the clause stipulates that if someone is unilaterally terminated from their contract without a reason as agreed upon, they are entitled to receive their full remaining salary ."

Coach Klinsmann receives a salary of 60 billion VND per year.

Lawyer Heo Joo-yeon stated that Coach Klinsmann's annual salary was 3 billion won, and his contract had two and a half years remaining. Therefore, the compensation amount would be approximately 6 to 7 billion won (110 to 128 billion VND). In addition, the costs incurred during the dismissal could bring the total compensation to 10 billion won.

" The amount was so large that it weighed heavily on the Korean Football Association ," the lawyer shared.

Lawyer Heo Joo-yeon added: " According to information from Japan, if South Korea is eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup, that could be considered grounds for terminating the contract. However, the team has reached the semifinals, so we cannot dismiss Klinsmann for that reason ."

" Furthermore, there are controversies regarding working from home. As far as I know, it's a Korean residency clause in the contract. Klinsmann probably saw this detail and worked in the US as long as it didn't violate the clause. This shows his incompetence ," the lawyer shared.

Public opinion in South Korea was outraged when their national team was eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup. They lost in the semi-finals to Jordan. Despite immense pressure, coach Klinsmann affirmed that he would not resign.

" I'm not considering any action. I plan to go back to Korea to analyze and discuss with the Korean Football Association what's good and what's not. The team needs to improve further with the goal of the World Cup in two and a half years. We have to go through some difficult initial steps and there are many tasks ahead ," said coach Klinsmann.
