(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Korean media reports that the Korean Football Association (KFA) lost a huge amount of money in compensation payments to coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) did not have to compensate coach Troussier.
Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) reached an agreement to terminate the contract with coach Troussier following the 0-3 defeat against Indonesia in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The highest governing body of Vietnamese football did not have to pay any compensation to the French strategist. Instead, the VFF only provided Troussier with three months' salary (over 4 billion VND).

Witnessing the way the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) parted ways with Coach Troussier, the South Korean newspaper Sports Daily expressed its dismay. They argued that the Korean Football Association (KFA) had spent too much money compensating Coach Jurgen Klinsmann, especially given its limited financial resources. The newspaper published an article titled: "The parting of ways between the VFF and Coach Troussier is completely different from the process that occurred between the KFA and Coach Jurgen Klinsmann." In the article, the author comments: "The VFF persuaded Coach Troussier to terminate his contract early. They made the French strategist understand that the Vietnamese national team needed to change. This amicable farewell is completely different from the KFA's termination of Coach Jurgen Klinsmann's contract. Despite immense pressure, the German coach resolutely refused to resign. The contract also did not include a clause for termination. This resulted in the KFA paying a heavy price for dismissing Coach Klinsmann. The organization had to spend 7 billion won (approximately 131 billion VND) in compensation for Coach Klinsmann. Including the coaching staff, the KFA lost a total of 10 billion won (approximately 184 billion VND) in compensation."

This is a huge sum, especially considering the KFA's already precarious financial situation. The significant financial loss makes it difficult for the KFA to find a replacement coach. The KFA is still in the process of searching for a new coach. Interim coach Hwang Sun Hong completed his duties after leading the South Korean national team in two matches against Thailand in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. South Korea won one and drew one against Thailand, maintaining their top position in Group C with 10 points. The South Korean team is almost certain to advance, being 3 points ahead of China and 6 points ahead of Thailand with only two rounds remaining. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese national team faces a high risk of being eliminated from the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. We are currently 4 points behind Indonesia, who are second in Group F. The "Golden Dragons" need to win both of their remaining matches against the Philippines and Iraq, and hope that Indonesia only manages to get a maximum of 1 point against them.
