Over the years, ethnic minority policies in Krong Ana district, Dak Lak province, have been implemented extensively and closely aligned with the actual situation, bringing positive results to ethnic minority villages. In particular, Resolution 07/NQ-HU dated October 11, 2019, of the Krong Ana District Party Committee on socio-economic development of ethnic minority villages in the district for the period 2020-2025 has created a further impetus to promote the development of ethnic minority areas in the district. Along with the attention, investment, and support of the Party and the State, the efforts of ethnic minorities are necessary conditions for the rapid and sustainable development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas. In the context of the entire nation confidently entering an era of self-improvement, paying attention to and promoting communication and propaganda work is of great importance in continuing to cultivate the spirit of self-reliance and self-strength among ethnic minorities. After a journey along winding mountain roads and steep passes, the village of Mùa Xuân in Sơn Thủy commune comes into view, with its peaceful pine wood houses nestled amidst the green mountains and forests, dotted with a few red tiled roofs. Compared to five years ago, the transportation infrastructure to Mùa Xuân village has improved significantly. The road that was previously a rough trail through the forest has now been 80% paved with concrete.
Over a warm cup of tea, Sung Van Cau, Party Secretary and Head of the village, couldn't help but feel nostalgic as he recalled the hardships of the past. Back then, the village of Mua Xuan was isolated in the mountains, without electricity, roads, or communication. During the rainy season, the dirt road leading into the village became a nightmare, slippery and treacherous. The only light at night was the flickering oil lamps.
"For children, going to school is a difficult journey; many have to drop out due to lack of resources. When they are sick, they have to stay home and endure the pain or struggle to cross mountain roads to reach the commune center, and in many cases, they have not survived," Mr. Sung Van Cau said thoughtfully.
In recent years, the village of Mùa Xuân has changed significantly. Not only has its infrastructure been comprehensively improved, but there have also been many positive changes in all aspects of life. From just a few dozen households, the village now has 124 households with 573 inhabitants. Mr. Sung Văn Cấu could not hide his emotion when mentioning the remarkable changes that the village of Mùa Xuân has undergone.
“In 2021, the road from Son village to Che Lau village and the internal roads within Mu Xuan village were completed, along with the national power grid reaching the three Mong villages, bringing new hope. Although the economy is still facing many difficulties, having electricity and roads has helped improve the lives of the people significantly,” Mr. Sung Van Cau said excitedly.
Along with infrastructure investment, the people of Mua Xuan village have also received support in terms of plant and animal breeds and technical training; many households have stabilized their lives. The local government also encourages people to reclaim land and cultivate two rice crops a year.
Sung Van Cau, Party Secretary and Head of the village, led us to visit the family of Thao Van Nhia, a poor household that received support for house construction. "Previously, my family lived in a dilapidated thatched house. Now, thanks to the support policy, we have this sturdy house," Mr. Nhia shared emotionally.
Amidst the vibrant spring atmosphere of the Quan Hoa mountains, we met Mr. Thao Van Dia, a respected figure in the Mua Xuan village. Having previously served as the village head, Mr. Dia deeply understands the importance of ethnic minority programs and policies in the transformation of his community. He affirmed that the sound policies of the Party and State are both a resource and a driving force behind the Mong ethnic people's current well-being.
Similar to the Spring Village in Son Thuy commune, the Mong villages in Quan Hoa district are changing every day. The entire district has 3 Mong ethnic minority villages, with 217 households and 1,066 inhabitants; of which Son Thuy commune has the Spring Village and Xia Noi Village, and Na Meo commune has Che Lau Village.
According to Mr. Le Hong Quang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Son district, the Mong villages are located in rugged mountainous terrain, far from the center. Thanks to the efforts of the local Party committee and government, along with the implementation of various programs and projects, recent years have contributed to improving the appearance and raising the living standards of the people in these Mong villages.
The government has encouraged the people to apply science and technology to production, helping the average annual income in 2024 reach 18 million VND, a threefold increase compared to 2020. Along with economic development, traditional culture is preserved with dances, flutes, and folk games such as stilt walking, throwing the ball, and playing the spinning top; outdated customs are gradually being eliminated. The new cultural life of the Mong ethnic people is clearly "positioned" amidst the mountains and forests of Quan Son.
