Specifically, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is adjusting its phone production orders, with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models being the most affected. The cuts will take place from Q4 2024 to Q2 2025.
Specifically, with the biggest cuts expected in Q4 2024, Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple's partners will ship 80 million iPhone 16 units (down 8 million from the original plan and 4 million from the previous year's iPhone 15).
In Q1 2025, the number of iPhones assembled decreased by 3 million units to 45 million, and in Q2 2025 it further decreased by 2 million units to 39 million.
According to analysis, iPhone 16 sales will decline in the first half of 2025 due to decreased demand combined with the launch of the more affordable iPhone SE 4. Therefore, the cost-cutting is justified.
Besides the iPhone 16, Apple is reportedly also cutting back on Vision Pro orders and may cease production entirely by the end of this year (according to The Information). Some workers at the partner company responsible for assembling the Vision Pro revealed they are "producing about half the number of products per day compared to peak periods."
Apple has not yet commented on the matter.
