School wall collapses in India, 7th grader dies.

A seventh-grade student died after a wall at this public school collapsed in India.

NDTV reported that the tragic accident occurred at a public school in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, India, on December 16th.

Mr. Pratap, the head of Tiruvallur district, told NDTV that, according to preliminary investigations, four students were eating when the fence suddenly collapsed, killing one student and injuring another.

"The Department of Public Works will inspect the building's structural integrity to rule out future risks," Pratap added.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has sent his condolences to the victim's family.

The New Indian Express reported that following the incident, the family and relatives of the deceased student staged a nearly three-hour protest, demanding disciplinary action against the school and prohibiting the autopsy of the body. Authorities subsequently pledged to take appropriate action against those responsible.

Sources from the school added that the wall had deteriorated significantly and recent rains had worsened the situation.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
