SCB began closing a number of its branches starting in June 2023.

According to the latest announcement, the bank has decided to close three branches.

Specifically, operations will cease from January 9th for the Ba Ria Transaction Office, under the Vung Tau Branch (52-54 Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Ba Ria City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province). Operations will cease from January 11th for the Phuoc Hai Transaction Office, under the SCB Khanh Hoa Branch (118 Thich Quang Duc Street, Phuoc Hai Ward, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province). Operations will also cease from January 11th for the Gia Phu Transaction Office, under the Binh Tay Branch (4-6 Hau Giang Street, Ward 2, District 6, Ho Chi Minh City). All customer rights and transactions at these transaction offices will be fully processed at other SCB transaction points.

SCB began closing a series of transaction points starting in June 2023. At one point, the bank announced the closure of as many as 15-16 transaction offices in just one month.

142 SCB branches have had to close since the Van Thinh Phat corruption case unfolded at the end of 2022.

SCB, formerly known as Que Do Commercial Joint Stock Bank, was established in 1992 in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2003, it changed its name to Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SCB).

At the end of 2011, SCB merged with two other commercial banks, First Bank and Vietnam Tin Nghia Bank. After the merger of the three banks, SCB had 241 transaction offices.
