Bogey, bogey, bogey … that was the familiar refrain that spectators witnessed on the opening day of the 2025 US Open , on the famous Oakmont golf course – dubbed “the house of terror”.
Scottie Scheffler , who had the lowest bogey rate in the PGA Tour season – just 10% of the holes he played – began his 2025 US Open campaign with his familiar smile.
After two holes, Scheffler scored his first birdie. However, a challenge arose for him as early as the third hole.

The world number one made two consecutive bogeys on holes 3 and 4. Another bogey then occurred on hole 6.
It was a tough day for Scheffler. The PGA Championship winner finished the challenging first 18 holes at Oakmont with 3 birdies and 6 bogeys – a score of +3.
Before Scheffler's turn, all eyes were on Rory McIlroy – the 2024 Masters champion and one of the few golfers to have won all four major titles.
McIlroy – who teed off at the 10th hole – recorded two birdies in the first three holes and remained among the leading golfers, alongside JJ Spaun.
McIlroy finished the first nine holes flawlessly, holding a score of -2. However, the back nine was a real disaster for him.
The 36-year-old Northern Irish legend lost control of his shots with four bogeys. His final hole was a double bogey, ending the opening day of the 2025 US Open with a score of +4.

Bryson DeChambeau also had a tough day with 2 birdies and 5 bogeys, placing him in the group tied for 49th place and at +3, the same score as Scheffler.
JJ Spaun was the sensation of the opening day at the 125th US Open. He was the only player to score in negative territory – leading the table with a score of -4 – without a single bogey.
The first round of the 2025 US Open highlighted the difficulty of the Oakmont course , with an average of 74.6 strokes, 4.6 strokes over par. A total of 328 birdies were recorded.

Among the most notable golfers, Jon Rahm finished with a score of -1. The Spanish star had two bogeys, one birdie, and one eagle.
Rahm was one of the few to score 7 eagles on the opening day of the tournament.
Meanwhile, despite finishing with a score of +3, Patrick Reed had a shot of a lifetime: an albatross on the par 5 4th hole (often called a double eagle; shots that score -3 strokes below par).
In the case of the US Open, Reed's magical moment was only the fourth albatross in 125 editions of the tournament.
