The workshop "Applying SEE Learning to Early Childhood Education" was organized by the Faculty of Early Childhood Education (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) and the social enterprise Heart & Mind Edu (HME).
The workshop was attended mostly by international experts (from the US, Singapore, and the Philippines), as well as many domestic experts, education administrators, principals, and preschool teachers from within and outside Ho Chi Minh City.
To begin the presentation, Professor Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, executive director of the Center for Meditation Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University (USA), showed a series of images depicting current crises around the world. These ranged from polarized ideological conflicts and violent clashes to climate change and the widening gap between rich and poor.

According to the professor, the common thread among these typical crises is a lack of emotional connection. Everything is happening against a backdrop of global economic , medical, scientific, and technological development.
"The question is whether we are happier with the developments and improvements we are experiencing?", Negi asked.
Tsondue Samphel, deputy director of the SEE Learning program, said the SEE Learning program was created to help society address these shortcomings.
According to Tsondue Samphel, the SEE Learning framework originates from the Dalai Lama's writings on secular ethics. The pedagogical structure of SEE Learning begins with teaching awareness, compassion, and ethics to children.

Dr. Bui Hong Quan, Head of the Early Childhood Education Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, commented that the SEE Learning program aims to develop positive moral qualities, effective communication skills, and the ability to empathize with and regulate emotions. The program will help students integrate and develop positively within the community.
SEE Learning is an advanced, learner-centered educational program built on modern and practical teaching methods.
According to the head of department, implementing SEE Learning will contribute to making preschool administrators and teachers happier, improving their mental health, and increasing their work efficiency. For children, SEE Learning brings tremendous benefits in terms of mental health, behavior, ethics, and personality.
Mr. Negi reported that the level of stress experienced by students in the US is increasing. Approximately one in three freshmen reported having experienced mental health issues before entering university.
In the years 2020-2021 alone, over 60% of university students had at least one mental health problem. 64% of students dropped out due to mental health reasons.
"Although these statistics apply to students in the US, I believe Vietnamese students are also facing this situation," Professor Negi asserted.
