Siri may be updated with the ability to automatically delete chat history, as Apple prepares to announce a new version of its virtual assistant at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, privacy will be a major topic when Apple introduces a new version of Siri. The relaunch of Siri is seen as a crucial opportunity for Apple to reaffirm its position in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
In this effort, Apple leaders are expected to emphasize that the company is pursuing a more privacy-friendly approach than many other AI businesses.
Apple is reportedly set to launch its first standalone Siri app, using Google Gemini and offering a chatbot experience similar to ChatGPT. Google Gemini is Google's AI model, while a chatbot is a program that can converse with and respond to users using natural language.
However, compared to other chatbots, the new Siri app may have more limitations in terms of usage time and user information storage. According to Gurman, Siri could have features similar to the Messages app, allowing users to automatically delete conversations after 30 days or a year, or retain them indefinitely.
Gurman also suggested that Apple might emphasize privacy to justify some of Siri's limitations compared to competing products. However, this emphasis could also distract users from noticing Google's involvement in handling some of the security issues.
