Even the "king of jobs" is struggling because of AI.

VTV.vn - AI is no longer just a technology of the future; it's now becoming a real challenge for American students as job competition intensifies after graduation.

May is graduation season in the US. Millions of students leave the classroom to enter the workforce. But this year, the joy of receiving a degree is accompanied by great anxiety: AI is dramatically changing the job market. A college degree is no longer the "guarantee" it once was.

This year's graduation season in the US is taking place under a unique context. While the graduation ceremonies are still vibrant, the pressure is palpable as students enter a rapidly changing job market fueled by AI.

According to the Washington Post, although the US economy continues to grow and the overall unemployment rate is not high, finding a job is much more difficult for recent graduates. Businesses are hiring cautiously, positions for less experienced candidates are shrinking, the application process is lengthy, and responses are scarce.

American technology graduates are losing their edge against AI.

In another article, the Washington Post pointed out a major paradox: Computer science students—once considered the "king of jobs" in the digital economy—are now entering the labor market under immense pressure as AI is rapidly replacing programming skills, data analysis, and basic jobs typically performed by recent graduates. A career path once considered the safest for American students is no longer what it once was.

The new development this year is that AI is no longer a distant concept for tech corporations. For many American students, AI has become a very real and pressing issue.

AP notes that at many graduation ceremonies, speeches praising artificial intelligence have met with less than enthusiastic reactions. A 2025 survey found that about 70% of students view AI as a direct threat to their job prospects.

CBS News also suggests that the reactions at graduation ceremonies reflect a growing skepticism towards AI. Many young people are feeling conflicted: while in college, they are warned against overusing AI, but upon graduation, they are forced to master AI in order to remain competitive.

A college degree is still very important, but in the new job market, it's not enough. American students are entering a more fiercely competitive environment where the ability to adapt and work with AI is increasingly becoming a decisive advantage.
