AI is changing the internet, from how users search for information and shop online to how they interact with social media.
According to CNN, Google is making major changes to its decades-old search engine as users increasingly ask longer and more complex questions. Robby Stein, Vice President of Product at Google Search, said that many people now ask difficult questions that no longer have clear answers on a single website.
A new Google feature allows the search engine to create custom images, interactive graphics, and even mini-apps directly on the search results page by aggregating multiple sources from the internet. This is one of the updates Google announced at its annual conference this week.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that helps machines mimic some human capabilities, such as data analysis, content creation, or answering questions. The development of AI is changing how users search, with many people starting to type longer, more specific, and conversational questions instead of just a few short keywords.

According to Google, queries in AI Mode – Google's conversational search mode – are on average three times longer than regular searches. Data from SEO and marketing company Semrush also shows an increase in conversational queries, while keyword-based searches have decreased.
This shift is partly due to tools like ChatGPT, an AI chatbot capable of answering, summarizing, comparing information, and crafting content. Experts believe ChatGPT has helped "train" users to search in a more natural and longer way.
AI is also having a significant impact on social media. AI-generated virtual characters, such as Aitana Lopez, Lil' Miquela, and Lu do Magalu, attract large followings and are of interest to brands because they are often less expensive than real influencers and can be easily customized for each campaign.
In the online shopping sector, Adobe reports that traffic to US retail sites from AI services increased 393% in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period. Google, Amazon, Meta, and OpenAI are all developing AI-powered shopping tools, allowing users to more easily compare products, prices, and price history.
Nevertheless, experts believe that high-quality, human-generated websites still play a crucial role. AI may change how users access information, but the internet continues to rely on trustworthy content for searching, shopping, and decision-making.
