Snapchat offers a free AI chatbot to users.

Snap, the company behind the Snapchat messaging service, announced that its customizable chatbot program, My AI, will be free for all users of the platform. Snapchat's AI chatbot is built on the ChatGPT big language model (released by OpenAI) and was previously only available to paid Snapchat+ subscribers.

This AI tool can suggest ideas, answer questions, help users plan, and even compose haiku (a short Japanese poetic form) in just seconds. Users can also bring artificial intelligence into conversations with friends by typing "@MyAI" into the chat box, or name and design Bitmoji avatars for My AI to personalize it as they wish.

Users can customize their My AI profile picture on Snapchat to their liking.

This move comes just over a month after OpenAI opened ChatGPT access to external businesses. Snap, Instacart, and Quizlet are three of the partners who quickly experimented with and integrated ChatGPT into their services.

Snap acknowledges that My AI is far from "perfect" but is still a significant step forward. The company claims that 99.5% of the chatbot's responses meet the platform's community standards, and that it has made changes and adjustments to "prevent inappropriate or harmful responses" to users.

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has amazed many with its ability to converse, answer questions, and write content fluently, just like a human. This artificial intelligence has created a new competition among technology companies of all sizes globally, while also accelerating the integration of AI into various products and services.

However, integrating ChatGPT or other large language models carries inherent risks. Intelligent tools trained on massive amounts of poorly controlled input data may provide misleading information or respond to users in inappropriate ways.
