Russia-Ukraine War December 30: The fate of Abrams tanks in Russia may be disassembled to study and search for core technologies on US-aid tanks.
Russia to study details of Abrams tanks captured in Ukraine
The possibility that Russia will study in detail the Abrams tanks captured in Ukraine is causing concern in the US, according to the US military magazine Military Watch.
The Russian military's seizure of US tanks supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is very dangerous because they can be dismantled and studied at the Uralvagonzavod plant.
“With more than 20 of Ukraine’s 31 Abrams tanks destroyed, the confirmed capture of some of them with only minor damage gives Russia one of the first opportunities in history to disassemble these tanks for detailed study,” Military Watch said .
The publication's observers emphasize that the danger is also posed by the fact that more than 4,000 tanks of this type are in service in the United States and its allies. America's opponents may also be interested in the information obtained during the study of the Abrams model.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Dutch Squire reconnaissance radar station, which was provided to Ukraine, was destroyed in the area of a special military operation.
Russia reiterates purpose of special military operation in Ukraine
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed in an interview with TASS that Ukraine's demands for demilitarization and non-alignment remain the goal of Russia's special operations.
Commenting on Russia's warnings that Ukraine cannot be accepted as a NATO member under any circumstances, Lavrov stressed that there is currently no consensus among NATO members on this issue.
“ NATO's eastward expansion is one of the main causes of the Ukrainian crisis, but ensuring Ukraine's non-aligned status remains one of the goals of the special military operation, ” the Russian Foreign Minister noted.

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the special operation will end when the goals set by Vladimir Putin are achieved. They can be achieved through military action or through peace negotiations.
Russia tries to take full control of Kurakhovo
The Telegram channel Military Chronicle reports that fighting is taking place in the city of Kurakhovo, Donetsk region. Clashes are taking place near the city's thermal power plant.
“ In fact, the fighting has entered the final stage of clearing the area near the Kurakhovskaya Thermal Power Plant. Almost all residential buildings have been taken, and a small industrial area is the focus of the AFU defense system. They are no longer able to counterattack and are trying to retreat, ” the Military Chronicle channel assessed.
It should be noted that a large group of Ukrainian troops has been besieged in the area of the thermal power plant for several weeks. The fighting in the area of the power plant was also confirmed by the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua, which noted that industrial zones are the key defense points of the AFU in the city.
The commander of the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 110th Brigade of the 51st Army, nicknamed “Yary,” said that the Russian troops had advanced one kilometer to Kurakhovo in a week. He noted that the complexity of the battles in Kurakhovo lies in the city’s high-rise buildings.
Meanwhile, the Military Summary channel reported that the Russian military has begun clearing the Kurakhove Power Plant. The Russian flag is expected to be raised today or tomorrow, and this development will be considered Russia's biggest achievement in 2024. Sources from both sides confirmed that Russia has taken control of the power plant in the west, although there is currently no actual confirmation on the ground.
The Russian army also successfully surrounded Velyka Novosilka. Ukrainian soldiers appealed to their superiors for permission to retreat immediately, as the city was likely to be completely cut off from supplies and troop movements today. That meant that if they did not evacuate in time, they would be trapped in a “cooker”.
Just a few kilometers from Pokrovsk, the Russians are attacking Pishchane and are believed to have taken control of most of the area. Following the AFU attack south of Kamianske in the Zaporizhia region, images from the scene show the Russians regaining control of positions lost in counterattacks.
At Chasov Yar, Russian troops entered the Desyata district after capturing the Pivnichnyi district.
According to Readovka channel, the most prominent event of the past week was that the Russian army controlled all roads leading to Velyka Novosilka, allowing the creation of a closed "cooker" in this strategic location.
Russia is applying strong pressure, causing Kiev's defense to collapse at any moment, but there is still no sign of AFU surrender or retreat, although there are reports that Ukrainian soldiers have asked the command for permission to withdraw from the area. |
