The fate of Abrams tanks in Russia

Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương30/12/2024

Russia-Ukraine conflict on December 30: The fate of Abrams tanks in Russia may be to dismantle them for research and to search for core technologies on tanks supplied by the US.

Russia will conduct a detailed study of the Abrams tanks seized in Ukraine.

According to the American military magazine Military Watch, the possibility that Russia will conduct detailed studies of Abrams tanks seized in Ukraine is causing concern in the United States.

The Russian military's seizure of American tanks supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) is very dangerous because they could be dismantled and studied at the Uralvagonzavod plant.

Military Watch stated: “With more than 20 of Ukraine’s 31 Abrams tanks destroyed, the confirmed capture of some of them with only minor damage gives Russia one of the first opportunities in history to dismantle these tanks for detailed study.”

The publication's observers emphasize that the danger is further compounded by the fact that more than 4,000 of these tanks are in service in the United States and its allies. America's adversaries may also be interested in the information gathered during the research process on the Abrams tank.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Dutch-supplied Squire reconnaissance radar station, which had been provided to Ukraine, had been destroyed in the special military operations zone.

Russia reiterated the purpose of its special military operation in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized in an interview with TASS that Ukraine's demand for demilitarization and non-alignment remains the goal of Russia's special operations.

Commenting on Russia's warnings that Ukraine should not be accepted as a NATO member under any circumstances, Lavrov stressed that there is currently no consensus among NATO members on this issue.

The Russian Foreign Minister noted: “ NATO’s eastward expansion is one of the main causes of the Ukrainian crisis, but ensuring Ukraine’s non-aligned status remains one of the goals of the special military operation .”

Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, previously stated that the special operation would end when the objectives set by Putin were achieved. These could be achieved through military action or through peace negotiations.

Russia is trying to gain complete control of Kurakhovo.

The Telegram channel Military Chronicle reports that fighting is taking place in the city of Kurakhovo, Donetsk region. Clashes are occurring near the city's thermal power plant.

In fact, the fighting has entered the final phase of clearing the area near the Kurakhovskaya Thermal Power Plant. Almost all residential buildings have been controlled, and a small industrial area is the focal point of the AFU defense system. They are no longer capable of counterattacking and are looking to retreat, ” – Military Chronicle assessed.

It should be noted that a large group of Ukrainian troops has been besieged in the area around the thermal power plant for several weeks. Fighting in the power plant area has also been confirmed by the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua, which notes that industrial zones are key defensive positions for the AFU in the city.

The commander of the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 110th Brigade, 51st Army, nicknamed "Yary," stated that Russian troops had advanced one kilometer into Kurakhovo in a week. He noted that the complexity of the battles in Kurakhovo lay in the city's high-rise buildings.

Meanwhile, the Military Summary channel reported that the Russian army has begun clearing the Kurakhove power plant. It is expected that the Russian flag will be raised today or tomorrow, and this development will be considered Russia's biggest achievement in 2024. Sources from both sides confirm that Russia has gained control of the power plant in the west, although there is currently no actual confirmation from the ground.

The Russian army also successfully surrounded Velyka Novosilka. Ukrainian soldiers appealed to their superiors for immediate permission to withdraw because there was a possibility that the city would be completely cut off from logistics and troop movements today. This meant that, without timely evacuation, they would be trapped in a "cauldron."

Just a few kilometers from Pokrovsk, the Russians are attacking Pishchane and are believed to have gained control of most of the area. Following the AFU's offensive south of Kamianske in the Zaporizhia region, images from the scene show the Russians regaining control of positions lost in counterattacks.

At Chasov Yar, Russian troops advanced into the Desyata district after taking control of the Pivnichnyi district.

According to the Readovka channel, the most significant event of the past week was the Russian army's control of all roads leading to Velyka Novosilka, allowing for the creation of a "cauldron" to enclose this strategic location.

The Russian side is exerting strong pressure, threatening to collapse Kyiv's defenses at any moment, but there are still no signs that the AFU will surrender or withdraw, although there are reports that Ukrainian soldiers have requested permission from their command to leave the area.
