Department of Health informs about drugs with signs of counterfeiting (Tobrex 5ml, Maxitrol 5ml)

The Drug Administration of Vietnam received Official Dispatch No. PHAR QA 14035-08-25/25 dated August 25, 2025 from Novartis Vietnam reporting on a suspected case of counterfeit drugs for Tobrex 5ml products, 02 batch numbers: VEE98C, VEE90A; Maxitrol 5ml, batch number: VFD09A; TobraDex 5ml, batch number: VHN07A.

Immediately after receiving the information, to ensure the safety of users, the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health issued a document requesting agencies and units to implement measures. Specifically, it requires drug trading and using establishments and people not to buy, sell or use drugs with the above names and batch numbers. When detecting products with the above characteristics circulating on the market, organizations/individuals are requested to immediately notify the Department of Health (Pharmaceutical Affairs Department) and relevant agencies for timely inspection and handling according to regulations.

For the People's Committees of communes and wards, notify drug trading and using establishments and people not to buy, sell or use this drug. At the same time, organize inspections and supervise the implementation of drug trading and using establishments in the management area. Strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate current regulations. Continue to strictly implement Directive 13/CT-TTg dated May 17, 2025 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the new situation; Plan 614/KH-BYT dated May 13, 2025 of the Ministry of Health on the implementation of Official Dispatch No. 41/CD-TTg and Official Dispatch No. 55/CD-Tg of the Prime Minister.

For the Provincial Testing Center, increase sampling and quality control of drugs circulating in the province for drugs at risk of being counterfeit or of poor quality. Timely report detected cases to the Department of Health according to regulations.
